Hopkins by far but Mayweather will be remembered as the better talent.

Sure, but he'd have to beat Margarito, Cotto, etc.. Hopkins has really be tacking on some great matches at the end of his career. Pavlik was a HUGE win.

A better legacy at his prime weight class? :rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl

Hopkins is a top 5 middleweight of ALL time. He was the unified champ there for years.

I think if Floyd continues to fight, and notches a couple more impressive wins on his resume, he will equal Hopkins. Though they're both so skilled its hard to compare them, Floyd would have the benefit of being undefeated.

But really, its so hard to compare anyone to a fighter like Hopkins. Some of his accomplishments just aren't going to be topped by a fighter like Mayweather. He's not going to have 20 title defenses because he's moved up in weight ( though he had I think 7 at super featherweight, which is very good), and he's not going to win big fights in his 40s, **** he's only 31 now!

    Hopkins.

They are relatively close, but I see B-Hop clearly ahead.

I think this is a good way to put it. I am surprised (and happy) at all the support Hopkins is getting here. I go for Hopkins too, though Mayweather has plenty of time to catch up and doesn't have too far to go. I doubt he will do it though, I believe in his retirement.

    Yeah you're right.

But junior lightweight didn't exist prior to 1921, and then it was stopped in between 1933 and 1959. Hence middleweight has been around for around twice as long (about 58 years), and there is evidently more depth there. Mayweather is in good company with the likes of Kid Chocolate, Chavez (though obviously his best weight was 135), Azumah Nelson (who only spent 15 of his 47 fights there), and Flash Elorde.

But Hopkins is in the company of Marvin Hagler, Carloz Monzon, Sugar Ray Robinson, Harry Greb, Mickey Walker, Tony Zale, Stanley Ketchel, Dick Tiger, Gene Fullmer, Jake Lamotta, Marcel Cerdan, Charley Burley, Bobo Olson, Carmen Basilio, Emile Griffith etc.

Basically what I'm saying is: Middleweight is a far deeper division, and Hopkins was the unified champion for over 4 years and 8 defenses or something like that, but was really the champ for about 20 or so defenses.

    I think Hopkins.....

But truly admire PBF's skill and amazing natural talent in the ring. The man had brilliance that wont be matched for years to come. As of now though, Hopkins has clearly fought and beaten the better competition.

Good lord, it's Hopkins, and it's not even close. Mayweather better come back and fight some career-defining fights to get into this debate.
