Kessler-Calzaghe revisited

Bulls eye! If Kessler is to move on to bigger things he needs brains in his corner. No one can accuse Richard Olsen for being too gifted in that department. As a matter of fact it's more like putting a severely disabled behind a 9mm machine gun in a mall. We saw Olsen's lack of boxing brain at work in the Calzaghe fight. It spelled collapse for Kessler. Kessler wasn't overwhelmed, he wasn't outworked...rather he was outsmarted and desparately needed advice from his corner. What he got was a big nothing. I don't care if Richard Olsen is Kessler's "second father". He needs to stand aside and leave clever people in Kessler's corner.:!:

 

It was a good, close fight. Kessler put up a very good show considering his hand injury. It's a shame there will probably not be a rematch.

it was a great fight and i am happy i was there,but i had to go home and watch it on tv as i was so far back it looked like two matchstick men fighting.
i was impressed by both fighters and believe kessler will go on to dominate after joe retires.

Great fight, both in terms of how well they were perceived to be, as in the action it self. I thought Kessler tried TOO much to go for the knockout with big bombs, but he did land some monster shots. How Calzaghe stayed upright after that big uppercut in the 4th i still don't know.

 

Whilst hand injuries to Kessler probably didn't help him, it didn't seem to hold him back too much.
As has already been mentioned, Kessler loaded up on his punches and allowed Joe to outwork him.

Also if anyone was at a disadvantage due to injuries then it's clearly Calzaghe. His punching power has declined somewhat in recent years.

However, great fight! Plenty of skills and thrills, with a fast pace and changing fortunes.
It's a pity that because it was between two 'euros' that it isn't held in the highest regard. Thats as good as world boxing gets imo.
