Mijarez's loss is puzzling.

one thing i noticed is mijares is not comfortable with vic's unorthodox stance during the first round. imo, he is using the first round to adjust to it but he was hit by nice uppercut before the end of it. from then, it was downhill for mijares and his confidence and ego was shaken. the uppercut did took a lot from him physically as well.

Right on, Vic's style troubled him throughout the fight and that uppercut in the first round did sort of "bring Mijares down to earth" again, as he was clearly overconfident going into this fight, smiling and all.

From that point on, one could see Mijares wasn't himself, he abandoned any gameplan he might have, no jab-no slipping and ducking and just went straight at Vic most of the time. Hell, he even tried to slug it out with the slugger! Totally wrong fight he fought.

Oh, and somebody brought up the mentality thing, that Mijares couldn't handle the situation he got into. I think this is a valid point. He was clearly surprised with Vic's speed and power and never managed to adapt till he was put out if his misery.

 

Everybody was on Vic nuts before the Doniare fight. Then he lost so they dumped him. His comeback fights have shown us that Vic is a world class boxer, he just wasn't prepared for Doniare. It's O.K., lots of fighters have a nemesis. And it aint no shame to be beaten by him.

Its gonna confuse you if you're the type who assumes a fight will play out basing on how they did against previous opponents. Dont over analyze as it usually leads to bias, like which technique you prefer. A good tactician is always 50-50 against a powerful puncher. Really depends on how they woke up that morning.

There are also some who thinks he is overrated like some posters here at this thread, including me. Only to be raised in laughable godly status by his disciple amsty and by you. Mijares is good no doubt, but he is not superbly perfect and without flaw like what amsty said, as shown by vic's fists. :bbb
Btw, i like mijares more than vic. Only this time vic owns his ass, donaire owns vic's ass, donaire is going up to 115 like was previously reported, and we're gonna see more "exposures."

mijares according to the post-fight transcript, admitted that he fought the wrong fight and felt the mexican in him that he tried fighting vic head-on. wrong move here.

**** that. Mijares wasn't exposed. He lost to Vic Darchinyan. There's no shame in that.

I'm still half in denial of what happened... but I'm not gonna stoop so low as to say that Mijares is crap. He is not.

Now. I wanna see Donaire - Darchinyan II. Or Darchinyan - Montiel. Anything else would be disapointing.

 

There was a poster who called the upset and the exact reason for the upset about a week ago (PacFan84 maybe?) Anyway, Mijares wasn't countering like himself because of the southpaw-southpaw matchup, plain and simple. Happens all the time.
