I find it very hard to watch this fight again. The first 6/7 rounds are amazing, but as soon as Margarito lays the beat down on Cotto it's horrible. Watching Cotto give up is hard to swallow. But props to Toni, he won me over. Just not a nice beating. Johnny Own vs. Lupe Pintor is another one, for obvious reasons.
Miguel Cotto did not give up. He took a knee and then got up, it was his corner who threw the towel in.
I cry inside every time I even think about that Roy/Tarver fight....****, thanks man u made me think about. Now you ruined my day.
From my understanding he had some serious issues leading up to that fight and he was severly depressed and wrapped up into drugs. Don't quote me on this but I do believe he was coming down from a crack high (which he was addicted to) by the time of the fight. Like dude said, he had the devil on his back in more ways then one. Very sad story, I don't think anyone will ever know what he was going through. I just know he later admitted to his crack problems during that time.
I am not criticising Cotto, nor is this the thread for the debate. Taking aknee without being punched is a clear indication that you want no more. THERE IS NO SHAME IN THIS. But he DID give up. He couldn't take another, what was it, 4 minutes of probaby punishment, he was gassed and there's nothing wrong with that. End of. Good thread though.
No. But even if it was it's better then crying like a little ***** because your fantasies of Mijares being unbeatable and him raping your ******* are over.(well atleast one of them is over)
The rumor about the McCall thing was that he was pulled out of rehab shortly before that fight. It's never been confirmed nor denied so who knows really.
I just don't like using the term "gives up". It implies Cotto isn't a warrior and has no heart. The man got back up, it was his corner that stopped the fight. We'll agree to disagree.
He took that knee without being hit and he looked to his corner in the hopes they will realize he didn't want to go on and throw in the towel so that he didn't have to just flat out quit.:deal
A mind reader too. This one is talented. Miguel Cotto looked over to his corner because they came up to the apron. Where else is he going to look? Either way, Miguel Cotto gave everything he had against Margarito and lost to a worthy champion.
