No, it's a great argument. The most accurate forecasts of the future are based on past results. I'm sorry, it's not clear that he underestimated Vic. You can give off an aura of cockiness and argogance without underestimating your opponent. Unless you're going to tell me Mijares didn't even bother to train, I'm not buying that excuse. That is true. None of us are fortune tellers. However, all signs point to another Darchinyan win. And let's be real, many Mijares supporters were completely dismissive of the notion that Vic would win the first fight. It blew up in their faces and no one is interested in hearing about how they shouldn't write off Mijares in the rematch. That's a fair assesment. How stupid and/or biased were the people that completely dismissed Vic in the first fight? Those predicitions were all based off of guess workl. The predicition that Mijares would stand very little chance in the rematch is at least based off an already completed fight between the two.
The guy got his ass kicked in all 9 rounds. That says a lot about him if he can't recover from a big shot he took in the very first round over the course of the next 8 rounds.
I think Crisitian Mijares underestimated his opponent. I also believe Journalists and a good percentage of fans underestimated Mijares opponent. I don't know why Mijares lost, but I know he didn't use of his best assets as early as the 1st round. That may have contributed. Darchinyan has earned the right to go into a rematch as the favourite. No question. Not at all. The predictions were based off how both fighters had performed in their previous few fights, and the stark contrast of styles. It didn't take a genius to come to the conclusion that with Vic Darchinyan throwing wide hooks, telegraphing everything he threw, somebody like Mijares would be able to counter them with relative ease. What most took for granted was Darchinyan's versatility, as well as Mijares sub par performance.
True. But if Mijares fights like hes supposed to, that shot doesnt land. But yeah, Mijares cant recover from a big shot.
That ass kicking was a result of a lot more than Mijares being overconfident. Everyone has a plan until they get hit. It looks like any plans he had went out the window once he got popped. That's fine. I just think it's silly for people to now turn around and say that we shouldn't dismiss Mijares when we've already seen what happened when they got into the ring again. Toughness, resolve, mental fortitude; these are all important factors that can't always be picked up upon when watching film. If that was such an easy thing to see, then why the hell did it not happen? Clearly, that assesment wasn't as clear cut as many of you thought. Mijares was sub par because of Vic's performance.
Crisitian Mijares didn't have a plan even before he got hit. For the whole of the first round, Mijares wasn't throwing much, not jabbing, and was lunging down into shots. It wasn't the uppercut that changed the fight, Mijares never had a plan. It isn't silly to expect the unexpected in this game. It happens to often. People who were dismissing Vic's chances had good reason to do so. On paper, it was a bad matchup of styles for Vic, and it wasn't that long ago he was brutally knocked out. Mijares was the smart pick. I disagree. Mijares needed no help from Vic to not perform. Even before Vic landed anything, Mijares wasn't doing anything right. Credit to Darchinyan for capitalising on Mijares lack of gameplan.
To be honest, I never made a prediction. Here's the closest thing I made to a prediction; http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=97372&page=2&highlight=Exposed I favored Mijares, but I thought Vic would give him a good fight.
