My one pick for this topic is Donald Curry. I remember watching his fights on Wide World of Sports back in the 80's. I thought that he had the abilility and charisma to become the next Sugar Ray Leonard. I remember him chopping up Colin Jones into a bloody mess and destroying Milton McCrory.
I didn't see his fight with Lloyd Honeyghan, i heard about it from a friend of mine, in fact I still have yet to see that fight. i remember when he moved up in weight and Mike McCallum scored that one punch ko over him. After that things seemed to move downhill for him, I recall that he spent some time in prison, and he got beat up by a fighter that at one time he trained, in a real grudge match.
    who are your picks?

In recent years.... Panchito Bojado. Watching his first 10 fights or so it looked as if Bojado would be GUARANTEED to be a top P4Pder some day. But nope, he turned out to be a lazy ass waste!

Taylor was a man possesed that night. McGirt was never in the fight simply because Meldrick was just too goddamn fast.

That version of Taylor would dominate the current crop at 140.

Yeah, Howard Davis he was another. A great boxer not much of a punch though and not too strong in the chin depatment either. He would have won the WBC lightweight title if Edwin Rosario didn't floor him in the last 12 seconds of their fight. He was also knocked down earlier in their fight. I remember the score that KO Boxing magazine would have him beating Rosario if not for that last second knockdown. I also remember that the boxing mags back in the early to mid eighties always claimed that Ray Mancini was ducking him.

I dunno whether Mancini ducked him or not, but I doubt Davis could have beaten Ray. He had the talent to do it, but Mancini would have just outwilled him.

    Don Curry
    Edwin Rosario
    Hector Camacho
    Mark Breland
    Greg Page
    Michael Dokes
    Michael Nunn
    Aaron Pryor

Many would say Pryor made it, but he also fell flat when he was set to absolutely soar, or at least attempt to.

Jürgen Brähmer. Was a very good amateur - beat Ricky Hatton 2 times for example - and had everything nd then some when he went pro. He was called a century-talent even by experts. But then he went into prison for a few years and was never the same after. Lost his will and hunger. Still fights for a lhw belt in a few weeks against Garay but he never will fullfill his potential.

    Tyrell Biggs
    Mike Grant......

They did ok but got exposed similarly before thier so called crowning night yet thier people still cashed in on thier investment even though they were not entirely convinced about the greatness of the fellers in question..

Grant was exposed badly v Golota yet was still placed in front of a blazing Lennox.....

Tyrell was sorely shown up against David Bey yet was still cashed in against savage Tyson..........

Duva boxing (main events) had a lot to answer to back then ............

:blood Curry was a prime example of a fighter who tucked his chin in perfectly. Technically he was among the most sound fighters of the modern era. Fantastic boxer-puncher in his short prime.
