SRR surely would have the best resume today if he were around. and Pacquiao was moving up in weight to fight Morales and then got a nasty cut by a headbutt in the 5th round. In the 2nd fight he showed what he could do to a near shot fighter.
JMM is not as powerful or as fast as Pacquiao, yet you still can't choose between them after 24 rounds. That is because JMM is more skilled. However, that doesn't mean he is a greater fighter, he is not, otherwise Willie Pep would be the greatest fighter in history, which he isn't. Pacquiao is Jones Jr and JMM is Hopkins for the purpose of this analogy: one guy may be more skilled, but ability = skill and physical attributes, thus Pacquiao is a marginally greater fighter than Marquez at this point, and Jones is a marginally greater fighter than Hopkins IMO.
Fair enough but I believe that marquez does have the tools to be p4p over manny. Because Lets see he gets narrowly beat of pac and the takes a belt of cassamayor who as not been KOed in his career.
its true that Casamayor has not been KO'd in his career but in his fight against Katsidis he was knocked down through the ropes and hurt many times. IMO Katsidis is not a very good fighter. And in his fight right before that, Casamayor got outpointed by Santa Cruz, a guy who got ktfo by David Diaz. so IMO Casamayor was ripe for the picking, something i was saying before JMM vs Casa was even signed.
Another factor that people should take into consideration is styles. JMM is a stylistic nightmare for Pacman. A good agressive come forward fighter who likes to initiate is usually tailor made for a quality counterpuncher.
so then if Pacquiao can still edge out a controversial win against the worst style possible for him and against the best fighter of that style actve today, what does that say about Pac?
Simple. I scored Hopkins-Calzaghe to Hopkins by a point, and I think his recent wins (Tarver, Wright, Pavlik) are significantly better than Calzaghe's (Lacy, Kessler... Manfredo).
yep. i agree. pac punches in volume but this doesn't necessarily mean that he just throws his punches randomly. just look at his counter right hook, his lead left, how he throws his left after ducking under or slipping a punch and his flurries to the head then body. these punches are practiced during sparring and training. just look closely during fights. you can clearly see that pac follows a definite rhythm when he delivers his combos. pac is clearly underrated when it comes to his technical abilities. if he was so predictable and redundant, then more fighters should've managed to beat him handily and dominantly. but that is clearly not the case. pac is also underrated when it comers to his D. he has noticably improved his abilty to slip and block punches w/ his gloves and arms as seen in his recent fights w/ jmm and diaz.
jmm's defense is not that technically sound if you consider his recent fights w/ barrera, pac and casamayor. a big part of jmm's defense his his ability to counterpunch. but his ability to slip and block punches definitely leaves much to be desired.
