If Calzaghe fights and beats Dawson in the USA or anywhere else, it would add NOTHING to his legacy.

There are no other names out there that would add to his legacy - why fight Tarver when he's beaten Hopkins and Jones Jr? Froch - good British fight and would make money, but Froch is even less of a name than Dawson.

    Let's keep this simple:

    - Calzaghe's resume as it stands is not good enough to be considered an ATG. It doesn't matter how good he is in terms of ability, his resume is not

    - Chad Dawson has beaten Johnson, Tarver, Adamek and Harding. He is undefeated, he is a natural light-heavyweight, he is young, he is a champion, he is skilled and strong

How exactly would beating Dawson NOT improve Calzaghe's resume and therefore his legacy? Of course it would.

How exactly is Calzaghe's resume so strong now that he can afford to retire without another young undefeated champion's name on it? Of course it isn't.

Joe had a money/sham fight on Saturday. He should retire after a real fight. It is his legacy that suffers if he doesn't.

Why do people keep thinking hopkins is faded?

I say let Dawson fight hopkins, see what happens there..

And about Roy Jones, I know he was beat easily and shot, but people shouldn't look at calzaghe in a bad way, i mean throughout most of calzaghe's career Jones literally was "Superman" and probly someone Joe greatly admired, so let joe have his moment in the spotlight after he's beaten somebody he cleary respects. I mean fighting hopkins and kessler before clearly shows he does'nt duck people.

seriously, dawson ain't even a name in britain, dawson couldn't sell ****.

dawson has beaten tarver, johnson, adamek, and harding - big ****ing deal - they are ****ing nobodies - fighters that calzaghe would be given no credit what so ever for beating.

over the next 3 or 4 years you are gonna see the emergence of a dominant fighter in kessler who is gonna wipe the floor at super-middleweight and light heavyweight. kessler is the only man out there now who has the tools to beat joe.

Though the theory is sound should calzaghe win i can already hear the chorus of 'so what, dawson beat an old tarver and lost against johnson'

All this crap, about how Calzaghe, need a young name on his record is a load of bull, Lacy and Kessler were undefeated stars with multiple title defenses when calzaghe took there "0" away, hell i even remember when he fought Veit the first time, he was seen as a unbeaten threat to Joe (not that i'm agreeing that veit was any good, cos we all know what happened there)

Not quite. Calzaghe's career level of competition is just so unspecial that Dawson would make a significant difference. :good

    I have nothing against a Hopkins-Dawson bout.

Problem is, will Joe stick around?

Hopkins may have to mop Tarver up again in 2-3 months time, Cal should be ready in 6.
