The biggest thing for Roy is to stay away from boxing ring and just retire and provide color commentaries.

He is the definition of a shot fighter, in its exact term.

 

No point in rematches unless the fights were close or disputed. Joe C has nothing to prove a second time against either Kessler or Hopkins or Jones.
I disagree that Joe C would have his way with Dawson. Again, styles make fights. One thing I have not seen in a Joe C fight is someone pumping a jab at him and giving him angles. And Dawson hits with power. He really is not a "freshman" at this point. The man is a true champion.
If Dawson beat somone of note, other than the Tarver fight, then I think Joe C would consider fighting him. I have to agree with Ricky Hatton in that there will always be more guys stepping up to fight him if he continues - Abraham, Pavlik, Taylor etc.

 

thats way too long to read lol. seems like you put a lot of thoughs into it which is good. but I already know its pro calzaghe by your avatar and by you starting off the post with saying Jones isnt as shot as he appears. Why dont you try watching some vintage roy jones footage on youtube and compare him then to now. And look at his footwork. look at his refexles. his effortlessness. not to mention he had much more devastating power

But you are forgetting ! the hopkins that fought joe isn't the hopkins that beat pavlik according to most on here hopkins will destroy joe in a rematch :rofl
I think it would be a carbon copy of the first match ,however JC would stop Hopkins as he would have done if cortez wasn't the ref.

The man couldnt capitalize on JC putting his hands down and sticking out his chin. Now either Jones is SHOT or he just didnt want to hurt the man. I say he's SHOT.

 

Excellent post and I agree that up until now kessler has been the fight where Joe has had to take it up several levels to win!
Kessler I would love to see against dawson or Hopkins and lets see them take his bombs, he is technically great with a good guard and throws lovely combinations.
Kessler is one for the future no doubt about that. :good

I like dawson and think he has a great future. At this point though i dont see him beating joe, dawson has a fair bit of poke in his punches but so did lacey, kessler, eubanks, roy etc...... I just cant see anyone knocking joe out, he seems borg like! through the first rounds he has fought against opponents punches are effective against him, there after he just assimilates them, they seem to have little to no effect on him. Kessler banged him all night with them rights, roys uppercut was a peach, eubank could bang a bit, so can lacey. Has a hell of a chin, joe does.

Dawson is fast throws great combinations, decent angles. Joe is not only just as fast, but has amazing stamina, throws from a great variety of angles, he also has great footwork, not many people have peek a booed jones!

Stamina, footwork, tenacity + 1 to joe.

Experience? no paragraph needed. + 1 to joe.

Dawson wants to fight joe at home, this i believe would be joes biggest advantage! Joe doesn't need egged on at the best of times. you put seventy thousand fans behind him though. Dawson would be lucky to get a chance to breath!

I just cant see a way past joe for dawson at the moment.



Regarding hopkins, i think joe would shine even better against hopkins this time, there would be no read******g mid fight this time, he would bring his A game this time and use his previous experience from the last fight. thats saying he could get hopkins to let go of his arm this time

regarding kessler, this would be a tougher fight for joe this time, kessler is still maturing and would have learnt a lot from thier previous fight, i think joe would need to be in the shape of his life! thank god for that chin again.

 

Roy Jones was well past his best.

For me it was the equivalent, of Lewis - Tyson, Lennox was aging but was still a dominant champion, many people thought Tyson had enough to beat Lennox, and the star power of the challenger made the fight the fight huge. We can talk about who woulda beat who prime for prime til the cows come home, it doesnt really matter. It was a fight that had to happen. Lennox needed that name on his record, same with Joe.

Even if you beleive a Prime Tyson would have KOd Lennox Lewis, does that prove Lennox isnt a great fighter? Ofcourse it doesnt!

Just because I beleive a Prime Roy beats a Prime Calzaghe, doesnt mean Calzaghe is any less great...
