Very interesting,I would like to see some research done on this.Another reason I asked this is Ive never been dropped and Ive got a large swede on me,Ive been stunned a couple time,Ive been hit in the back of the head with a log and never saw it coming either, dident drop me but I knew I'd been hit,Ive been hit across the temple area with a a heavy concrete filled pipe and that dident put me over,it did **** up my eyesite for a while mind you and left me with a groove in the side of my skull! I do agree its a mental thing, well a large part of it anyway.I believe that if you believe you can take it then there's a good chance you will.

i ery much doubt it. the guy is 7 foot, and doesnt bend down a lot. tye fields was way down when barrett hit him. barrett was never reaching up more than a few inches. tye fields got caught coming in.

seriously john ruiz has not got one punch KO power anyway.

what im really saying is that being so tall valuev hasnt been hit by someone of similar height with KO power. Every fighter to hit him has been aiming up and cant get full leverage and power. vitali could come the closet to really testing that volkswagen head.

Seems like guys with exceptionally small heads have shaky chins.
Eg. David Haye, Herbie Hide, Hasim Rahman, Ray Austin, etc.
In this clip Austin's head looks like a grapefruit being knocked off a baseball tee by a solidly-struck football.

David Hayes head is tiny in relation to his body so I see where you are going with this.

skull size, ive read in a few online articles that neck muscles and jaw size makes the difference in the chin department

Maragrito's head looks normal size to me. Has an ectomorph frame and a head that's in proportion with that. He does seem to have a short neck though, even though it's on the skinny side. I think neck length is far more important than thickness. I'd be interested if anyone knows of fighters with long necks that have good chins.
The intelligence idea is interesting. I think genetic intelligence potential is related to how well your Nervous System has been developed. Seeing as how losing consciousness is controlled by nervous system it would make sense those with a complex and well developed CNS are more susceptible to losing consciousness.
I too had wondered how Ali had been knocked down by Henry Cooper yet took countless bombs from all the heavy hitters he fought. When you factor in his obvious natural intelligence (his gift of the gab) maybe it's evidence to suggest through training and conditioning you can definitely IMPROVE your jaw but some have better jaws than others. I'd never heard Ali deliberately trained his chin, anyone know what he did?
Another topic that has always interested me is having a good chin vs brain damage. Do guys who take tons of punches cause they've got a great chin end up with more neurological damage than those who have weak chins and get knocked out after a few shots? How many guys who took heaps of abuse in the ring came out unscathed?
I don't like these 'chin checker' types who keep saying if can't take much of a punch you're a 'fraud' and have no right to be a boxer. If Roy Jones really did have a glass jaw his whole career, I think it's amazing he managed to achieve all that he did. Surely if you can become a WORLD CHAMPION BOXER with a glass jaw that's an incredible achievement. It makes a fight interesting when you know the guy whose way ahead on points could get knocked out any minute.
