    Think about it....

if calzaghe came over before tarver I to fight roy.... he was still 4 fights away from jeff lacy.... basically he was still getting into prime calzaghe form

    and

if calzghe came over before jermain taylor I to fight bhop... he was still 2 fights away from jeff lacy... once again he was still a couple fights from being in prime format

its just amazing to think about and now that i think about it ... it doesnt surprise me that calzaghe's management waited till the perfect time to come to america and make these fights happen.. I DOUBT that waiting till roy & bhop were over the hill were in their minds... but the opprotunities presented themselves and calz's managment rolled the dice and it paid off....

cause god knows that if calz came over before bhop & roy started going down hill... the results would have been ALOT !! different

timing is an amazing thing isnt it!

Saying calzaghe Prime 4 Prime is stupid because its impossible.. Calzaghe is damn near in his prime now.....

roy jones and bhop were in there prime like 6 years ago....

6 years ago calzaghe was still fighting COMPLETE SCRUBS!

    just being honest...

and even so... for roy jones the same fearlessness that was taken away from him by glenn johnson & tarver was one of his best strengths .... i think his self belief in himself made him willing to take more risks offensively.... or atleast be more confident in himself... from watching roy fight joe... i felt that he was a little fearful of joe landing a shot that would hurt him

I don't know about B-Hop because Calzaghe was at a higher weight then B-Hop but the fight could have been made. Why wasn't Calzaghe vs. Jones made in 1994/1995 when Jones was at super middle and they were both champions? Most likely because Calzaghe would have been KOed, anybody that disputes that has never seen Jones at 168 who had one of the most dynamic combinations of speed (some argue the fastest hand speed ever at this weight) and power in both hands

    not a stupid thread...

your mind obviously cant fathom what im trying to say...
when bhop at his best... calzaghe DEFINITELY WASNT YET!!! ... calzaghe peaked a little after lacy.... bhop was slowing down aroudn then and rjj had already got his head knocked off twice....

this thread has nothing to do with talent but about time and timing of these 3 fighters peaks

Well one reason they wouldn't have fought in 94/95 is because Calzaghe didn't become world champ until 1997 during a period when Roy was heavily juiced and moving up weights

in 97 roy would have murked calzaghe...

calzaghe was barely reaching the 20 fights mark fighting fighting 4 & 5 fights a year (bums.. you can only fight 4-5 times a year when the quality of comp isnt that high)

and roy was LITERALLY in his prime... in 97 he was dusting off montell griffin
    fighting like twice a year

roy was more skilled at that point of their careers (1997)

edit: and b-hop just came off tko'ing glenn johnson .. who i did not even know he fought

Calslappy carefully cherry picked his way though out his career and that is how he will be remembered by most outside of the UK.

    :good100% spot on.
Can not stand the calzaghe huggers who constantly disagree.
Roy in his prime was unbeatable at 168 for most past and present.
But with Hopkins, I do believe he got better with age, and would like to see a rematch, as I believe the fight was a lot closer than most joe fans would like to admit

i wouldnt exactly say he cherry picked.....

the more i think about this... he came in the game at a bad time...

because he was too amateur for roy & bhop (based on time)
but too advanced for the jermain taylor & jeff lacy's

like either way no matter who he faught he would have never really got his respect... prime roy & bhop (mid-late 90's) probably would have waxed calzaghe

prime jt & lacy (early 00's) would have probably got waxed by calzaghe

poor timing... and really no way to know how good he is because he never had a career defining fight that every all time great ( TOP TOP SHELF) has

Well exactly - Calzaghe had only just won the title that year and you wouldn't have expected them to fight then.

Calzaghe peaked far before the Lacy fight. Calzaghe was at his best just after the Omar Sheika fight. he was 28 and Prime. Anyone who think Calzaghe peaked at age 34 is full of ****. Joe kicked Lacy's ass so everyone assumed thats when he was best, thats when a good portion of the boxing world realized Joe was great. His hands were shot to ****ing pieces by the time the Lacy fight came about.

In RJJs prime and BHops prime they wouldnt have looked at a fight with Calzaghe, that doesnt mean he wouldnt have put up a good show or even beat them.

ight so omar sheika was in 2000....

at that point calzaghe opposition still wasnt that of roy's ... the experience would have shined through ... regardless of skill level.. i highly doubt calzaghe was prepared (mentally or skill wise) to take on roy jones at that point
