Wales runs on a huge deficit and is supported financially by England. That may sound a mean thing to say, but it's the truth.

 

Wales sounds like it's setup very similarly to Puerto Rico.

Then by my reckoning they are not a country.

They sort of sound like Texans. Texans like to think of themselves in terms of a country or nation. They have a history of being an independent nation. And even after they were annexed they've had their separatists elements.

But in the end if you're paying taxes to "another" nation and spill blood on behalf of that "other" nation then you're just spouting off crap calling yourself an independent country.

its slightly different because we are a monarchy and wales/scotland/northern ireland /england have the one head of state the queen.

but there own parlimentry systems.

also they have there own seperatist parties in there own govts as well.

the soldiers thing is more in line with usa , it is traditional.

in fact scottish/welsh /irish regiments are very patriotic and proud of there acheivements and history in uk wars , yet are independent minded in most other areas .

for example if you are scottish you receive free higher education, if you are an englishman living in scotland you have to pay.

the govt in scotland is an independence for scotland party

in northern ireland there are no english/scottish or welsh parties of govt.

it is a bit of a muddle , but they all do consider themselves/scottish welsh/english, but it gets a bit complicated because the leading party in N.I wants to be english and the 2nd party wants to be irish republic and not part of the uk at all.

also the very strong regional dialects in the uk instantly are recognisble as to where we come from

ireland/england/scotland /wales.

of course inter marraige and migration and no borders further confuse the issue.

What, you hear a fairly strong Welsh accent and assume he's English, how does that work? Do you mistake Germans for French?

 

I'll assume that's just poor wording and not **** stirring, nobody in Northern Ireland wants to be English.

Would you mistake an upstate NY accent for midwestern? My bet is you would, because you don't hear the accent every day, or every year, for that matter. I can't remember the last Welshman I heard speak, other than Calzaghe or Tom Jones.
