Calzaghe becomes annoying

Calzaghe wants his record to remain unbeaten , But if he takes a re-match with Hopkins he knows deep down he might well loose to this guy !!!

 

He was, but can you actually prove that his age has made him worse? I'd argue that this version of B-hop is actually the prime version. Think about it, he throws as many punches as he did 10 years ago (except for the Calzaghe fight where his output was killed), but he only get hit about half as much and it more accurate... so what has being 43 got to do with anything? People point their finger at his age to dismiss Calzaghe's achievements, yet are quick to remind everyone he just whupped the undisputed middleweight previously undefeated superstar in Pavlik... the same guy that would have knocked out Jesus Christ in 1 punch :roll:

The Hopkins age arguement gets boring very quickly, I'd like to see anyone make a compelling case that it's adversely affected him, because apart from the Calzaghe fight on paper he's just as busy as he ever was. Look at his punch output again Winky, Tarver and recently Pavlik, 'his best performance of his career'. Those are the words of B-hop and many boxing writers, who to be fair tend to know a thing or two.

Either way, he doesn't deserve a rematch, nor do the fans deserve to have to watch him try and mug, spoil and cheat his way to victory. Cant see HBO or the like buying into it either, it's hardly PPV when Hopkins cant draw flies to a fresh ****.

 

I'd like for you to make a compelling case that being 43 was beneficial to Hopkins. I can't believe you are trying to convince me that Calzaghe beat a prime Hopkins. The same boxing writers who you yourself say "tend to know a thing or two" I guarantee you that NONE of them thought that Hopkins was in his prime for the Calzaghe fight. Thats ludicrous and ultimate nut huggery.

 

Joe Fighting Hopkins is ten steps backwards for Joe! If Joe is going to fight again the only one in light heavyweights would be Dawson..there would still only be one outcome for that fight..Super Joe still undefeated 47-0!!! Yep pa!!

 

Thats because Hopkins is more dangerous and Dawson is a hype job.

 

Couldn't agree more... and this is coming from a neutral observer as I am not supporting either of them. Calzaghe shouldn't hide behind arrrogant statements like "I don't do rematches"... Every true great of the sport did them, why wouldn't Cazaghe? As a true sportsman (and businessman) he should be more than happy to fight a yet older Hopkins with this kind of big figures involved. As the Blade stated, Hopkins did not need to fight Calzaghe in the first place. It's up to Joe to return the favour now!

 

Calzaghe is a smart guy who doesn't get bothered by Hopkins conduct. It seems clear to me that he's only using it as a pretext because he simply doesn't want a rematch with Hopkins.
IMO Hopkins won their first encounter by 1 point, it's true that he went into survival mode the second half of the fight but now he seems rejuvenated and would probably do better. Of course there were some very close rounds and I can accept when people had Calzaghe winning a close one. Anyways, this fight just screamed for a rematch, and even more now after both have scored big wins recently. Calzaghe knows he will have a hard time with Hopkins again, and that's the real reason he doesn't want a rematch. But I think if the public demand becomes strong enough he will have to take the rematch with Hopkins, and why not in Cardiff?
So the Calzaghe fans on here should stop defending their man for not wanting the rematch and instead ask for it, because then they'll have a chance of seeing their favourite fighter in a mega fight on their home turf. Also, a clear win against Hopkins would give Calzaghe an ATG status.

BTW I tought these 'white boy' statements by Hopkins were immature and stupid, but one shouldn't overrate them. Hopkins is not racist, he's friends with white people and encouraged Pavlik after their fight when he didn't have to, saying he's the future at MW and so on, so how can he be racist?

There was a time when I tought Calzaghe was a cool guy, and I rooted for him when he was the underdog when he schooled Lacy back in 2006. I was glad he was finally stepping it up and I also respected him for taking the fight with dangerous and underrated Kessler, and beating him clearly (still his biggest win to this date). But now his success seems to have changed him and he acts arrogantly, only because he beat a very faded Roy Jones and was lucky to get the nod against Hopkins..
Still, Calzaghe is not half as annoying as his nuthuggers here on this site...

I never said it was beneficial did I? All I keep hearing however is that B-Hop is shot, past it etc when this is clearly not the case. Also brings into question what 'prime' actually means. Are we talking about youth and age, or are we talking about the most dangerous and hard to beat version? In which case Hopkins now is a more difficult prospect than the one of 10 years ago and he's fighting people that are genuine at the weight too... so my point is that you can argue a case either way and his age is a non factor... it does however make a great excuse for sore losers wouldn't you agree?

Either way, it's not a fight I'd want to see, it's certainly not a fight the general public are going to watch either, they fell for that **** the first time around. No ones dumb enough to fall for that **** a second time

 

calza didnt need hopkins to be come a superstar,and hopkins is a boring fighter and i for one am not in the least interested in a cazl hop rematch,
hopkins had his shot and blew it ,now it is somebody elses turn to have a crack,that is the most sporting thing to do.

I'm a huge fan of Hopkins, but he is more racist than average. Especially when it comes to fighters.

After Hopkins beat Pavlik, he said something like "you need to learn to fight like a black guy". Pretty racist.

I don't mind. Everyone's racist to a certain degree, and even though I consider Hopkins more racist than average, I like him because he is a great fighter.

As for Calzaghe not wanting to rematch him, I can't complain. I mean Calzaghe was disrespected before, during, and after the fight. Hopkins is great but particularly unsportmanslike.
