I agree. Hopkins is as far past it as Jones physically but he adjusted his style to that and fights in a energy conserving way. He just knows how to hide his weaknesses and expose the weaknesses of his opponents.
Hopkins prime was actually before the Trinidad fight. He didn't just get crafty and technically sounds once his physical skills started to go. He was skilled and crafty in his physical prime as well, when he also possessed the stamina, speed, and workrate that he is missing now. From what I saw, I would say Hopkins prime was roughly from 1996 (vs. Steve Frank) through 1999 (vs. Echols I).
WHO THE HELL WANTS TO SEE HOPKINS V CALZAGHE 2? ANOTHER QUESTION IS, WHO THE HELL WOULD WANNA PAY FOR IT?? i certainly wouldnt and anyone other that hopkins fans wouldnt want to either. hopkins is a great tactical fighter and for that reason, he is still a great fighter. but he is way past his prime. for instance..... pavlik is a fighter who needs time to get his punches off, thats when he can really hurt you. so hopkins simply throws small combos at him everytime pavlik gets set, not giving him any time to fight. he exposed pavlik the way calzaghe exposed lacey. when hopkins fought calzaghe, it was a different fight because Joe thrives on pressure and hopkins knew this. so bhop simply backed up the whole fight and grabbed joe as soon as he got close. these are 2 completely different fights and he done well in both of them (even though the calzaghe fight was boring as hell and he lost) there is still one big fight for him i think..... Roy Jones Jr!!! This is about the only fight ppl will pay to see. its not about winning titles for them 2 now. its about goin out with a bang, and a rematch would be interesting. What do you think, agree??
