I've never been able to get into old black and white tv fights. To me it seems like I'm watching a movie than an actual boxing match. Also it always seems that the action going on is is slow motion or speeded up.
I've just never been able to watch the old time greats because of this. The only black and white fight that I ever enjoyed watching was Clay-Liston from 1964.

Depends exactly on how poor the quality is.

I don't like the way they sometimes dub in the sounds of punches. It's so obviously fake; more like someone hitting wood. The films would be more enjoyable with that.

Agree, it's over the top and fake. It's like the constant moaning in porns. I always turn it off.

I don't know how old you are, but your age may have something to do with it. I started watching boxing around 1988, when I was 11 years of age. I grew up with miced-up rings, mic'd up corners, and multiple live commentators. It took me 4-5 years to truly appreciate footage missing these things.

How do you spell miked up, in reference to microphones?

Turning the volume down works as well.

I have hours of old b & w's. With movies and other recorded programs/events you always want to have the commercials taken out but with some of the old boxing footage, I like the commercials left in; kinda takes you back to another era.
"Brought to you by Viceroy, with the thinking man's filter!"
"Make every Wednesday night a Pabst Blue Ribbon night!"
Even the Wide World of Sports fights from the 60's that I have, many have commercials contained. I'd see commercials I hadn't seen in 40 years but remembered them immediately!
    Pretty neat...

if you are that bothered by the quality and the speed etc.. you just can't appreciate how far boxing on tv has come.. I love boxings atg's so i get enthusiastic at any time i get that rare chance to see its finer advocate of the art in action.. If you did love this sport as much you may learn to look at it from the standpoint of the time those fights actually accurred.. I can sit all day watching Joe Louis, Bill Slattery, Archie Moore, Dave Shade, Charlie Burley etc... That is the difference between a lot of this generations fans, they need instant gratification .. in colour at the very high standard , NOW and it has to have 1000 punches a round.... or its boring dude..... LOL
