Bernard Hopkins V Joe Calzaghe II

Nah I think the problem is Joe's work rate ..Unless Hopkins can keep up with Joe's workrate I see the same result in a rematch .

 

Hopkins. He didn't let his hands go in the first fight. The only reason Hopkins wants to do it again in the first ****ing place is because he intends to pull a 180 on Calzaghe with a highly increased assault. When he says he wants to do it in Wales and he intends to knock Calzaghe out he's being very direct.

 

If they were younger this fight would be a must, sadly with Bernards stamina nowadays I get the feeling it would just be more of the same.

 

Saying it and doing it are two very different things. He also said he was going to beat Taylor twice and even talked about Taylor's style of punching ("Pulls back his punches like he's drawing a bow") as an offensive liability that Hop would exploit. He was pretty adamant about how he'd beat Calzaghe, too.

Hopkins is lucky he didn't fight the Calzaghe who showed up against Jones. Calz. was adjusted to the weight for Jones, looked physically bigger and more toned, was better conditioned, was faster, had better movement, and was sitting down on his punches. Jones did more damage to Calz. than Hopkins did and Jones hit him harder. Jones got worked over because he engaged with Calzaghe, if Hopkins did that he'd get beat worse than Jones.

 

Any boxer can learn from the first fight in a rematch but as shitty of a puncher Joe is he just keeps on punching and earning points. I would love to see a rematch but its very unlikely and maybe it would turn out just like the first fight. Of course we know Joe would get knocked down in the first round cause thats his trademark nowadays.

 

In a rematch I think Hopkins would win.... But I also think JC is right not to give him a rematch....


B-Hop couldn't give Joe any credit after the first fight.... he's a sore loser and as JC said "Screw Hopkins"....who the fuc wants to see Hopkins fight....he's boring for the masses.....every fighter wants a piece of Joe now because he's considered "low risk high reward"....

 

That's some pretty basic ****, mate. It's always two things. Always. Now, if you're telling me ahead of time that you're willing to bet that Hopkins goes back in there and turns pensive and apprehensive again then that's saying something. It's a stupid ****ing bet though.

 

Haha. Funny, that DOES seem to be his trademark these days. I guess if you knock him down he has you right where he wants you.

But shitty puncher? Ask Roy's eye. Hell, ask Roy who admitted those "pitty-pat" punches were harder than he thought. Hell, he must have been hitting Hopkins with something to make him pretend he was hurt later in the fight.

 

Same fighters, Same result.

Dont let the Pavlik fight fool you, Joe is just simply a lot better then Kelly.

 

Nah, what I'm saying is this. What Hopkins SAYS he's going to do isn't the same as what he'll be able to do. He's said he's gonna do all sorts of things before a fight. But once you get in there, it's a different story. And I think that Joe's style and workrate would again shut down Hopkins plan to be more aggressive.

I mean, c'mon. Everyone talks about what a strategic master Hopkins is. So why didn't he adjust his fight to a more aggressive style once the middle rounds came in the first fight?

Look, I believe Hopkins would train and come in with a different attitude than the first fight. I just doubt he'd be able to "execute" it in the face of Joe's tireless output. Remember, there's two guys in the ring.

Joe beats bhop yet again, styles make fights & Joe's is all wrong for hopkins just like taylors was.

 

LOL yeah well Jones was pretty bloodied up and I cant tell if its from hard punching or just the fact his skin isnt conditioned to take any type of punches anymore. That being said Im not really a fan of either. Although I usually root for the good ole USA.

 

I think it's possible..never write the executioner off..but the post prime version of Hopkins is not strong enough to compete with an energetic fighter like Calzaghe. Calzaghe UD again.
