  2. Well with Calzaghe and Kessler at #'s 1 and 2 with the every European fan on here, Hopkins would be placed in the top 500 just behind Ali. In reality, Hopkins is a top 25 hands down you morons

the thing about these lists is that they can be so subjective.
I would rate hopkings as an ATG, dont know if he is inside the top 30 but close
definitly one of the best fighters to ever step between the ropes
    here are my reasons
    1. came off a debut loss to win consistantly till beaten by RJJ(this counts IMO cuz its very rare for someone to start their career with a loss and then come back like that
    2. his ability to keep fighting at the top level at an older age
3.his adeptness at picking the right strategy to beat opponents
4.his ability to come back from losses to have BIG wins(tarver after taylor, pavlik after cal)

Because ranking them closely is probably fine, but having Hopkins above Hearns is indefendable in my opinion. Mainly because...

Chief amongst the reasons i've already outlined.

He was top 85 going into the Taylor fight. He is around 80 now.

He is still fighting and he is not retired for about 20 years so acording to the standarts on ESB he is not qualified to be on the all time great list, every great fighter from the past 20 years beat any current fighter acording to ESB posters. Like i was saying some years ago champions of the past = overrated.

Boxing is about excitement, the crowd, the event, and it's supposed to be a sport. Hopkins had a tremendous arsenal of wicked punches(ask Golden Boy)
He was naturally stronger than the people he faced. Personally I feel that he carried opponents to get more commercial advertizing on the air. He "let" them
hang around and didn't take care of business. His foolish handling of Taylor prooves one thing, that he tried to fight moment by moment, lacking any real game plan or strategy. Why would he do that instead of knocking everybody out? He could, you know. He tried to stretch-out the fights because he had endless stamina and punishing power. He needed a different trainer and ears to listen. Based on this fact, he will not be on any "top" list. B-O-R-I-N-G!!!
Dull and lackluster like Virgil Hill. He admittedly did only enough to "win" and it caught-up to him. He could have knocked-out Bernard Taylor but he had no plan. Look at his stats---not enough KO's to stay on top. Dudes---he could knock you the f___ out if he wanted to, almost at any time and he cared more about the machine than giving his all. Too bad, really. Not in the top 30.

You think having Hopkins above Hearns is "indefensible" because you place such importance on resume...

...and yet after looking at your own all-time pound-for-pound top 55, I see that you rank Floyd Mayweather Jr above Hearns, and Eder Jofre, and Marvin Hagler, and Alexis Arguello, and Jose Napoles, and Ike Williams, and Salvador Sanchez...

I think that is far far more indefensible!!
