Your top all-time greatest boxing cherrypickers

Everyone cherry picks nowadays. You think that it's just happenstance the Calzaghe decideds to fight Jones and Hopkins when he did?

You think Lennox Lewis fighting Holyfiled and Tyson when he did was just a fluke? Lewis and his handlers wanted nothing to do with Tyson or Holyfield back in the day. Lennox came up with these guy's, they're all roughtly the same age.

Consider these perfectly timed fight's:

Dela Hoya vs Whitaker? (Whitaker's skills and conditioning were impacted by drug use)

Dela Hoya vs. Chavez (Chaves was shot)

Mayweather vs. Dela Hoya (Oscar is no longer an elite fighter)

There are a higher version of cherry picking but still cherry picking IMO.

rjj and michalezewski deserve 50/50 of the blame imo for various reasons. BUT, RJJ should have AT ALL COST chased that match. RJJ had the financial backing of the HBO, and could have gotten that fight made if he really wanted to. imo, he should have fought him, as michalezewski never lost his belts in the ring. that fact alone, puts a cloud of doubt on his career at light hvy. i also think he would have beaten michalezewski fairly easily. dont really blame him for eubank, as eubank has gone on record saying that he did'nt really want the jones fight. i dont really blame him for collins either, as collins had nothing to offer. i really think he should've fought benn after the mcclellan fight considering benn was big draw in the UK, had the WBC belt (RJJ loved chasing belts) and was a fairly easy fight for RJJ considering his performances after McClellan. that would've been a unification fight as well.

Unlike fighters such as Joe Calzaghe who were fighting and beating rising threats such as Jeff Lacy and Mikkel Kessler near the end of their careers, Floyd consistently and unfortunately chose the path of least resistance when he went up to 140+. This cowardice culminated in his early retirement from boxing at the age of just 31.

At a time when most boxers are at the peak of their powers, PBF stepped away from the sport rather than take on Margarito and Williams (and, some would add, Miguel Cotto). It was a disappointing decision for fight fans around the globe, and one which helped solidify Floyd's status as one of the ring's best-ever cherrypickers. When faced with an opportunity to step up to the competition, Floyd demurred.

Floyd Mayweather as the #1 cherry-picker of all-time gets my vote as well.

That also seems to be the consensus among boxing writers, boxing historians (two that I know of) as well as most fans on this board.

DLH is no cherry picker he fought the best in every ****in division at 135 he unified the belts and beat molina and ruleas at 140 he took on chavez when he was 23yo, he was going to face kostay tyzu before he ****ed it up for him by getting beat TKOd by phillips at 147 he made his debut against whitaker and fought,oba carr, quartey, trinadad and mosely. DLH didnt duck no 1
