The whole point of what Calzaghe does when he showboats is to make his opponent look stupid.

What better way to make an opponent look stupid than to be a complete goof in front of them and still not get hit? You don't seriously believe Calzaghe thinks he looks cool when he does his hipshake and other stuff do you? He's taking the **** mate :yep

One thing you and many posters on here don't seem to get is the British sense of humour - they are comfortable enough with themselves to take the **** out of themselves by doing goofy stuff like that.

Your guys meanwhile are too busy trying to look cool and tough, gnome sane? Too much false pride mate, set yourself up on too high an ivory tower and you fall a long way when someone comes along who is better than you.

It does look stupid but he's earned the right to do it. He's enjoying himself out there in the ring and doesn't see why he shouldn't have his share of showboating, especially when the other guy isn't exactly doing anything to stop him.

But it really would be funny if he did it again and got KO'd doing it. And that stands for anyone who showboats.

IMO, there's a possibility that Mayorga lost to Trinidad as a result of his showboating.

He was winning (admittedly for barely two minutes) till he stuck out his chin.

I'm British and a Calzaghe fan but I agree 100% with the opening post.

Calzaghe's a great fighter but one of the worst 'showboaters' in the history of boxing!! It looks completely false and forced and I wish he would stick to what he's good at - spanking americans.

I think people are irked about it more from Joe because:

    a) he does it an awful lot. He might have broke the record for it in that fight
    b) he has no charisma, looks stupid doing it
    c) he's not a slick fighter in actuality, so showboating doesnt compliment his style
    d) Calzaghe is not God like Roy was in his prime, so showboating is a bit upstart
e)you dont get knocked down in the first round and then start showboating the next round

I normally hate any and all showboating...if if you are so good, why haven't you knocked him out.
I didn't like it when Clay showboated, I didn't like it when Spitter Lenoard Show boated, and I did not like it when Jones showboated....

And for years, I've seen Jones showboat and every thing was quite right on, with Jones fans....actually Jones was taking his for free Air breaks while showboating.

So Jones finally got made look to look foolish.....
Now I to think, Cal, sticking his head between Old Man Show boater's hands both times in the Second was just priceless. And well ****ing deserved.

Cal just don't have so much experence in Show boating...that much showed.

Too bad had he been an American, he'd had Showboating 101, 201, and 444 in his neighborhood.....
The thing is, most Brits don't show boat in pub or out side pub fights which they do lots more than Ameircans...they are too busy kicking ass. They don't knwo they are supposed to talk **** and act..they just kick ass.

I do like that line, what goes around, comes around.

I loved it, highly amusing! Although he could've stopped him if he wasn't messing around which was annoying.

What are you People talking about? Look at all the Showboating Jones has done over the years etc...Now if Jones was never into that type of thing then I could understand People getting upset about Calazaghes antics..What goes around comes around as they say!
