Jeff Lacy is and always was an overhyped and highly mediocre boxer.

The ATG masterclass that Joe Calzaghe put on him ruined him forever.

Lacy was never gonna be the new Ray Robinson but he was certainly a better fighter pre Calzaghe than post Calzaghe... of this I am certain.

IMO, an ATG masterclass can ony be achieved by beating a great opponent (Hopkins v Trinidad) - anyone can look spectacular dominating an overmatched and undertalented opponent (Hamed v Steve Robinson).

Have you seen a lot of Lacy before he fought Calzaghe? Dont be fooled by the KO ratio Bill, he was not impressive at all IMO.

I think Taylor's renewed jab is going to pose problems for Kessler. We can all see that Taylor cocks his right too much but he has the speed to get away with it. Taylor is not just a jab, right hand fighter either. He has a great left hook, and a decent uppercut. Let's hope this fight does go down.

I must admit I don't see Taylor KOing Kessler but I do see him domination the early and middle rounds and perhaps fading a bit down the stretch but not enough to be in a any trouble.

As I posted somewhere else, Lacy has always been a crude boxer. What made him a good fighter was his raw power and strength. He seems to have lost that power and with it any possibility of winning against great fighters.

He is what he's always been save for the fact that he's basically a one-armed fighter now. He no longer throws the left hook. I think I saw one hook that even came close to the old pre-Reid fight Lacy.

Lacy's defense his entire career is based on his ability to absorb huge punishment to get his shots off. He also is and always has been a lousy inside fighter.

The reason he was hyped so much is the boxing fan's obsession with knockouts. That will never change.

I would say there is a strong chance here that most people who think Lacy was always overhyped are the exact same people who predicted him to destroy Calzaghe back in March 2006.

I bought into it whole-hog, PF84. Bit of power? Watched him in the gym, when he first came to L.A.

No super middle, no one, would spar with him -- was flattening cruiserweights. Freddie Roach had to get braces for his elbows when he worked pads with him.

The only other time I'd seen that happen was when Freddie worked with Tyson.

Everyone in the gym was convinced he was the goods. Even James Toney, who throws compliments around like manhole covers, said, "Lacy's the man when I'm not here."

Taylor did not particularly impress me; Lacy actually made that fight. Despite his technical faults he has a fighters heart, I think there's something to be said for that.

This doesn't even make sense. Then again given your recent dire attempts at making threads, that doesn't surprise me.
