Kessler is The Ring #1. Dawson is the Ring #3. It makes zero sense to go up for a young virtually unknown fighter who has never been shown one minute on HBO. Outsuide of the US the difference is much greater even. Kessler is fairly known and for example took part in the biggest Aupean fight in decades while Dawson is a complete unknown. I understand that you were right if the guy said Kessler would move up and fight anyone. He clearly does not. Kessler is no journeyman type who moves up and down like a Epifanio Mendoza and many others. Kessler wants to fight in his division just like many great fighters have done. Once he succeeds (if he succeeds) he will move up.
Dawson is not a complete unknown. HBO wouldn't be pushing for the fight if he was. The fight makes no sense to Palle because Kessler would probably lose. Kessler has fought plenty of no names in his career. If he wants to improve his stature in America like he claims he wants to do, then beating Dawson would go a long way in doing so. However, team Kessler knows Dawson would cause Kessler all sorts of problems. Anytime a fighter wants to avoid another fighter, they always play the "he's not a big enough name" card. Kessler wants to protect his record and make a bunch of money. If he was so worried about cleaning out the SMW division, he wouldn't be trying to fight Hopkins.
