To be honest, I think in Joe's mind he wanted Jone's name on his CV, and then was going to fight Pavlik. It just ended up, that Pavlik started to believe the hype, and thought he was able to beat anyone.

Lacys performances pre-Calzaghe looked like ****. Calzaghe merely exposed his mediocrity on a large scale

    Two questions for Bill Butcher

1.Have you seen the Omar Sheika v Jeff Lacy fight, from Lacy's pre-Calzaghe days?

2.Do you think shoulder surgery has anything at all to do with Lacy not stopping anyone over the last couple of years, or is it 100% the mental after-effects of losing to Joe Calzaghe on points?

I think it was a combination of the Calzaghe fight and the torn shoulder. Lacy is essentially a one armed fighter now.

What the **** are talking about? Lacy had like 3 different KOs on Showtime that were all highlight worthy. They were a whole bunch of youtube videos of his KOs. Somewhere around 2/3rds of all boxing writers were predicting him to win. Boxingtimes predicted he would utilize his strength advantage and break down Calzaghes guard before KOing him in like the 8th round.

****, I remember the American version of FHM magazine had this big article on him, how he was training and his power, and he talked about confident he was to be going over to Wales, and coming back with JC's belt. They said he could be a savior of American boxing.

And then it all blew up in ****ing flames

Lacy looked great against the cans, but that's because that "left hook" he used as a nickname was able to land and hurt guys, he wasn't able to use that punch as he moved up in level of op. Before Calzaghe even the name "left hook" wasn't really honest anymore.. it wasn't his money punch.

Sheika gave him everything and more in that fight, well before Calzaghe exposed him completely.

He was a young 21-0 fighter who was still actually just stepping up in class at the time, and Calzaghe was just a no-name Euro champ who didn't even have a ton of fans in the UK, **** most of you guys hated the ****er back then pre-Lacy beatdown.

None of that was based on the facts in the ring. Boxing fans knew this.

I could give a fat **** what people were saying Mexican. I didnt buy one bit of the bull**** hype.....Watch the Wiggins fight. For ****s sake why you of all people are pretending is beyond me..

Fact is Lacys was nothing more than mediocre. He could rely on his power to win him fights against cabdrivers, but against top tier opposition he has failed and always will fail. Again I mention the Wiggins fight as an example but there are other fights he won yet looked like **** until the miracle punch lands

Yeah, the wiggins fight. I never saw much of Lacy coming up, cause i didn't get showtime, but when espn classic started replaying older showtime fights, i saw the lacy-wiggins fight, and after watching it, I thought how in the hell did anyone think that lacy was going to be an elite fighter, he looked like **** against that wiggins guy.

Could the Calzaghe beatdown have an affect on Lacy? Sure.

Could the shoulder injury have an affect on Lacy? Sure.

But if you take those two things out of the equation, would Lacy ever have been an elite fighter? Hell No.

Because every American does not want to admit he is one of the best fighters of the modern era, and is better than any other American fighter in boxing today. :deal

Put it this way. Lacy pre Calzaghe has never fought an elite fighter...same him being outboxed by pemberton before KO. He fights an elite fighter in Calzaghe and looses wide. He fights another elite in Taylor and looses wide. Lacy was prime...you are not gonna loose your prime over one fight getting slapped. Had Lacy been beating elite fighters pre Calzaghe and then fail after Calzaghe then you have a point...as it is, just so happens Joe was the first elite he fought to expose him.
