Like ive posted in previous threads, I think he has the ability to go 50-0 and against the best comp available, but I dont think he wants to carry on for 4 more fights.

If he has one more fight, then he has to go for Dawson, he'd get uncalled for slack if he picks anyone else, and legacy wise at this moment in time Dawson is the best option.

I dont see him retiring, if he really had his heart set on leaving the game he would have announced at the post fight press conference after the RJJ fight, he wants to see what offers come in, although he is past his peak imo, he is only just reached his full earning potential, after many defences of hia 168 title these new purses are gonna be hard to turn down. We;ll def see him in the ring again.

As for oponents after Dawson? I think Johnson, Erdei, Diaconu, Taylor, Froch, Bute, Abraham and Pavlik are all good resume boosting wins.

Nobody denied his abilities, just his status. Fact is he's an unknown over here so why would a fight with him and Calzaghe generate any interest? Dawson needs to get his ass over here and beat a few decent known fighters (journeyman Johnson doesn't count, that guy went 4-6 when he fought in a division which wasn't full of old men) then maybe he has a shot.

What does Reid have to do with anything? I don't understand how this comment has anything to do with the point being discussed.

Maybe Johnson. I'd say fight Johnson. Glen is old like Eubank, Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr. Dawson is still green, but VERY dangerous.

Eubank was 31 when Joe fought him.

if you look at another post on this forum as to who has the weakest resume, Calzaghe is right at the top well a head, I dont think Dawson will do anything major for his resume.

He is at a very hard position and it will take something special for people to change their views about his resume, or the many talks about him having protected record down in Europe, he might have decided to come to the US a little too late. But again he has a lot of true fans and 2 of them makes 4 of any other kind.

Retire after Dawson, there are no worthwhile challengers out there.

The guy has proved himself for yrs, he is 36 yrs old, I watched the Calzaghe life story DVD last night & he says he isnt interested in beating Marciano`s 49-0 or Louis`s 25 defences... he says those guys are legends & he`s happy to keep below them.

He deserves all the success he has, he comes across as a genuinely nice guy & whether he finishes his career as 46-0... 47-0... or even 46-1... he will go down as 1 of the best fighters ever & the best British fighter of all time IMHO.

Good luck to the guy whatever he chooses to do.

IF he fights Dawson, then I would definitely go to CW and see if the Calzaghe style holds up. I actually think it will and a belt there will increase Joe legacy significantly. Even over a weaker champion.

I think if he fights Dawson very few people will criticise him. He should have fought him in place of Roy, but if he fights Chad now i'll have nothing but respect for him (win or lose).

Whats left for Calzaghe? One thing IMO. Doing at least one rematch against a strong opponent (in his prime) away. So far only Kessler fits the bill since BHOP and Jones were away fights and furthermore they were veterans. Calzaghe should beat Dawson, rematch Kessler and then call it a day. Then there would be absolutely nothing more for him to achieve in boxing. I like Calzaghe but he needs to "hand out" a rematch damm it! Its part of being a great champ.
