Easy fight for Margarito, maybe Withaker in a coma after the fight and everybody praying for the 5'6 slick boxer that Chavez beat.
Here is how Whitaker vs. Margarito will look. And just like in this fight, the only intrigue will be whether Whitaker sets a compubox punchstat record for most punches landed: [YT]e3lWusLDA6o[/YT] [YT]i1-kbnqRuKk[/YT]
Sup Greeko? To tell you the truth, Margarito puts a lot more pressure than the one seen in this vid... plus I don't know if Pernell has the appropriate reach to land that jab so frequently, or if he has the power to keep Margo at a distance. Remember, when Margo realizes he can't be hurt, then it's all hell for his opponent. Could speed and ring smarts do it for Pernell in this fight? I honestly don't know.
Pea couldn't hurt Vasquez either, a bigger, stronger fighter than even Margarito, and a harder hitter as well, with a better jab. I don't see the relevance in Margarito realizing he can't be hurt. I think he realizes this a lot of the time, as did a lot of Pea's opponents. That doesn't change the fact that Margarito has zero ability to cut off the ring (something that never worked on Pea anyway due to his ability to fight off the backfoot) and lacks the footspeed to close the distance, as well as the handspeed or accuracy to land frequently on Pea. Pea's lack of power is not what would deter Margarito, but his movement and accuracy with his counters and jabs would. And make no mistake, Pea's jab got there against every opponent he ever faced, and would most certainly do so against a lackluster defensive fighter like Margarito. I'm not demeaning Margarito, or even being biased towards my favorite fighter here, but this would be an out and out clinic. Margarito's style is made for Pea.
That isn't demeaning Margarito, but saying Sweet Pea would pull his shorts down in the process of getting a shutout...certainly is.
Hey Carles:good Cardona had a pretty long reach and he didn't stop coming forward and trying to land punches either. Margarito is a bit stronger than Cardona and slightly more heavy-handed, but I don't see it worrying Whitaker at all. He took near on 300 punches from Tito and still warred with him. Margarito would need 30 rounds to land 300 shots on Whitaker. And even then he wouldn't put him in any trouble.
You make a good case, but the bold part of your post is false. Margarito has proved that one of the two or three things he does well, is cutting off the ring. Has Pernell faced a fighter with relentless pressure, superb stamina AND the ability to cut off the ring as Margo?
