This may sound like a stupid question but did hopkins break some sort of record due to his fighting at his age? something like the oldest boxer to fight a top P4P guy (JC + Pavlik)??
probably this oldest to fight a p4per but who to say that pavlik is p4p worthy? He have great wins over taylor but outside that is rather unproven.
Without looking at the record I know Archie Moore fought some good people past 40. I won't count Ali because that was so so late in his career, but I have often called Bernard Hopkins a modern day Archie Moore.
yeah i'd count ali b/c ali was the man and yes archie did fight him. i've read that archie was even older than he claimed (or was believed to be at the time)
knocking out Taylor is enough, winning him in the rematch is just extra to put him p4p worthy, i even currently rank him p4p higher than Calzaghe
NO Hops didn't break any records---George foerman was 45 when he KO'D Moorer back in 94, which was even better than Hops feat because Moorer was out cold.. Larry Holmes was whipping guy's in their 20's when he was in his 40's, and Archie was successful in his 40's as well..
He tied Fitzsimmons' record of being the oldest man to capture the Lightheavyweight title (and broke it by a few months I believe). Moore was 39 when he won the title and held it until he was 46 (I believe), so he is the oldest 175'bs champ, but not the oldest man to win the title.
