Only an idiot would deny Hatton is #1 at 140 right now. Then again, only an idiot would have given the 2nd round in that fight to Malignaggi. I think I'm noticing a recurring theme here...

After watching the fight tonight I can tell you the one that would beat Hatton at 140 is Torres. He has good speed and very good power. More than enough to put Hatton out. Paulie landed few right hands but when he did Hattons head would just bounce back. Imagine a Torres right hand hitting Hatton. And you know they will. Hatton showed he was very easy to hit tonight whenever Paulie actually got the balls to throw. Torres would be inHattons face all night throwing bombs and Hatton would not be able to take it.
I thought maybe with Mayweather training Hatton that his D would be worked on but it really didnt look like it. Hatton was open for shots most of the time. The only thing that looked different was Hatton was not clinching as much as usual but i think thats because he knew Paulie didnt really have the power to hurt him seriously. However against a hard hitter I think we would see either the wrestling Hatton or a KOd Hatton.

since when was hatton not easy to hit??he took all of tsyzus best punches and kept coming forward and i think he has atleast the same power as torres.torres himself is chinny and i think would be stopped early by hatton

I cant rate anyone above Hatton at 140 because... well, they dont deserve to be ranked above him lol!

Talk about his resume in the last 3 years all you want... but exactly who has faced that much better oposition and won to kick him out of number 1? to me... nobody.

Head to head is completely debatable... i think torres AND holt give him a lot of problems, but im sure as hell not going to put them at number one because they could or could not beat hatton in a future fight lol... im putting hatton at number 1 for what hes done... he beat the man at 140, and has backed it up for the most part.... hes undefeated at that weight, the only guy at the time he really didnt fight is cotto and witter... then cotto moved up, witter lost... torres and holt have come into their own... so to REALLY solidify his place i think he should fight

    Holt/torres winner
    Bradley

now that hes beaten malignaggi... that would solidify him to the point even his haters that i see in this thread would have to respect that.

but even besides all that... i dont see how hatton can not be number 1 for anyone at 140... seriously.

The Hatton win over Tszyu will always be dubious in my eyes even though I consider it a stellar performance in some ways, by Hatton. What the ref allowed, the intentional low blows, I consider those things.

The Lazcano fight and the shoelaces break was so criminal to be hilarious. It was symbolic of everthing that is wrong with boxing today. Hatton gets hurt, he is in some trouble, lets stop the action so he can get a nice rest and recover and tie his shoelaces.

Would Lazcano have capitolized in that moment? We will never know. But how can things like this not take away from a fighter's victory?

With all that said, I think I would still rate Hatton at #1 at 140 off his resume, even with all the asterisks and help from hometown refs.

But Bradley beating Witter was a very significant, and legitmately accomplished victory, and it was a clear victory in my eyes, even though it was ruled a split. But that alone isn't enough to take Hatton out of the #1 spot.

I think though, if Bradley does what he says he wants to do and goes after Holt/Torres winner, Witter in a rematch and Kotelnik, that would be a helluva run if he wins them all clearly. And the argument that he passes Hatton for the #1 spot would grow stronger with each victory if Hatton fights inferior opponents. If Pac defeats DLH at 147 though, you would have to put Pac above all those names in terms of schedule strength and a Ricky win over Pac at that point would keep him #1 I think.

I think if Bradley won those three fights above and Hatton took out Pacquaio, won another and was still around, that for sure Hatton would go after Bradley for a final fight. It would be big money and Hatton, if he can sustain himself for a few more years, is always dangerous, very dangerous.

Lets see what happens though, a lot on the horizon. Maybe the next young upcoming star of 140 is not Bradley but someone.........else. :scaredas:

To be the man you have to beat the man. Bradley has beaten Witter and thats it. This makes him top 3 or 4 and nothing more.

One of this years most stupid threads.

Hatton has been the dominant force at 140lbs since he beat Tzyu.
