Poor Maliggnaggi... i feel horrible for him

Paulie was woeful though.
He was getting outclassed and holding and stalling, I really don't see the point of continuing in this instance.
But I'll agree to disagree.

 

:rofl He was getting his ass kicked badly, Hatton HURT him atleast 3 or 4 times in the fight, McGirt saved him from taking more unneccacary punishment. Paulie took a BAD 1-sided beating tonight which is why McGirt stepped in.

 

Paulie got beaten worse against cotto. This was nowhere near that. Paulie wanted to finish and McGirt should have let him.

 

the ref should have deducted point from Paulie for not fighting...it was very disgraceful

:rofl OK 3 things
1. Hatton Hurt him several times tonight so I don't see how any 1 could say he wasn't hurt.
2. The Cotto fight was competitive, tonight was a very 1-sided fight hell Hatton may have even pitched a shutout.
3. Paulie quit, he was not trying to win the fight, he was only there to survive, and it was clear he was not going to last in the end, as even Stevie Wonder could see Hatton was coming after him.

 

The dude wasnt even fighting back. He was throwing 1 feeble punch and then hanging around Hatton's waist. He wasn't there to fight and didn't seem to be from the start so I'm glad they stopped it.

 

Disagree with 1-3. Hatton stunned Paulie a few times, but that was about it. HAtton caught Paulie with a mean hook the best punch of the fight and Paulie just stuck his tongue at him. This is what fighters do to say hey you are winning but you cant hurt me. Obviously Paulie was not hurt as this was about a round before the stoppage.

I agree that the Cotto fight was a little bit more competitive, but still, if Paulie has a broken face and you let him continue even though he's not gonna earn a decision, why stop the fight against Hatton?

And for 3, I dont think Paulie quit, i think he just was picking spots to counter. I didnt really see Hatton coming on stronger, he looked the same, chasing Paulie and hitting him when Paulie would try and turn the corner in the ring. I dont think Hatton was going to knock him out.

Again this is about a fighters pride, and for a guy like Paulie, surviving against Cotto was probably the highlight of his career, getting the TKO on his record probably hurts for a guy who prides himself on going the distance.

Hell he came out with the Rocky quote "its not how hard you hit, its how hard you can get hit and keeping moving forward"

 

Dayum I forgot about the fight! Anyway, I knew Hatton was going to win. Who really couldn't see this coming?

 

It robbed hatton of an absolutely devastating last round to,,,not saying he'd have him down but ricky wanted to prove the doubters wrong and would have thrown it all into that round,,,especially with paulies weak KO % in mind

 

Yep, I feel you. I dont even like Malignaggi but I felt his pain when the fight was stopped as a former athlete myself.

 

Yeah he should've let Paulie finish. He was losing and put on woeful performance, but if you're going to stop a fight just because a guy doesn't stand a chance of winning, why stop it in the 11th if it was obvious around the 7th or 8th. Its a quitters mindset. He wasn't in serious trouble. Poor stoppage on McGirts behalf. I would fire him for that.
