I may be an American, but I am only a FIGHT FAN. There is no adjective to describe it. I'll watch it on anything. From a round by round in a chat room to an extremely choppy illegal online satellite stream to buying the fight because I feel that ****ing indulgent that night. Strike calling me American from any sense of the record, I watch fights. Period. That post might be a tangent from what the topic is aiming at, but I'll take this battle to any level. Who cares where you're from when you're a boxing fan?
Boxing is not a mainstream sport in America. It has become more and more marginalized over the past two decades.
seems to me that the euros are alot more passionate bout their sports,, hell soccer matches over there turn into ****ing wars,,,, I would never go to a match their lol unless I was packing a shotgun and a hand gernade!!! Americans love football here,,,,pack stadiums for nascar and basketball and baseball
Good timing with this thread= actually, where I live 15 miles from Sacramento, Cal, I was surprised with Calzaghes' fight with Hopkins, then Jones, and recently, Hatton VS MAlinaggi, were all put on the 2nd page of the Sacramento BEE sports page. Prior to these fights. I never saw any boxing results at all. Now the Sac Bee papr s showing them:happy

i think american fans are spoiled because we have a larger selection of fighters the uk only has 2 superstar fighters in hatton and calzaghe so you have no choice but to get behind them.... we have all the american fighters plus the latin fighters because the latin fighters pretty much raise their careers in the states
go through any of the ranking bodies heavyweight down to minimum weight and see who has more ranked contenders the US or the UK :hi:
1. You'll never see a poster of Hatton fans and the word "Class" unless its with "less" on the end of it. 2. You have two hands and one beer? Maybe you should learn to drink.
Excellent post :good Boxing continues to shoot itself in the foot in the States and the younger American athletes are playing football, basketball and baseball nowadays. To follow boxing in the U.S. these days you have to be able to afford cable upgrades for HBO and Showtime as network television does not show any matches. Meanwhile MMA has made inroads by being cast on the national network CBS.
Yeah I agree your spoiled with fighters/fights to choose from to an extent. In the UK you have Hatton, Calzaghe, Haye, *Froch & Witter(*not massive attractions) they pull decent crowds no matter who they fight but if they got a massive fight it would sell out quicker. In america although you have more fighters to follow I am suprised that more people dont go to the big fights i.e. a Pavlik Taylor 2 etc. It's more these type's of events I mean rather than low key cards.
pretty much. hteres like 3 major fighter that rep all of the uk when talking about fighters that rep the states you could mention floyd-shane-roy-bhop-pavlik-juan diaz-cotto-gamboa-berto-tarver-dawson-paul williams no doubt some of these fighters were not born in america but they fought in america their whole life so we take them in as one of ours and because of that its not like theres 1 great american hero.... plus because uk is frowned upon in the states in think that brings uk fans together to uplift their fighter against the american competition
