very true. thats the problem with this "pride" argument right there. paulie gave up trying after a couple of rounds in the most important fight of his career. he accepted defeat very early in the fight, for him to decide from the SECOND round that he'll be satisfied by losing a decision is a disgrace in itself. mcgrit did the right thing, he even warned him, whats the point of continuing a fight if you're not going to try to win? hopefully paulie learns from this stoppage.

 

I know Paulie's pride was destroyed, but at least McGrit gave me an earlier night. :yep

 

The big difference is he was in with a chance of beating cotto on the score cards and even hurting cotto on occasions, whereas he couldnt hurt hatton whatsoever and was losing every round. Malignaggi looked like he didnt want to be in there any more he was holding constantly,ducking down low and NOT throwing any punches at all.

 

plus there would be ALOT more stoppages if that were the case...u don't stop fights because a guy is fighting poorly u stop them because he is in danger...Magic was trying..I know it is hard to fathom for those of u who have never fought or are just clueless but it just wasn't his night...hatton was the better man...so he takes his beating, never goes down and gets a UD loss...ENTER...buddy HERO mcgirt to take matters into his own hands and rob him ANY good coming out of the fight

 

yes he was...he was worn out but u don't stop that fight...and I will say it again if that is the case there are well over thousands of fights that should have been stopped and werent..like EVERY PBF FIGHT

 

he has himself to blame for mcgirt stopping the fight??? mcgirt was telling him to double up the jab...he has no right to stop the fight..if being a championship level trainer was a fight buddy's should have been stopped a LONG timeago

 

that is not the point...and u know it...**** PBF should have 36 ko's then...the only close fight he had was castillo and ODH..the rest had no chance but somehow they let those guys go

any ways he got what was coming to him fighting like that it was a good stoppage and he was rocked several times during the fight.:nutcase to him

 

It is hard to feel sorry for anyone who lost his last two fights against Ngoudjo and N'Dou but won due to corrupt judging and reffing. I also find it highly suspect he wasn't deducted points last night for his constant holding. One of the most disgraceful performances by a so-called "top fighter" that I have ever seen. He got hit hard once and stopped fighting. His strategy from that point on was to try to hug Hatton as long as he could just to survive the round. Molitor also got exposed this weekend against a fighter who outclassed him but at least he came to fight and though he got knocked out could still leave the ring with his head high. Maliggnaggi disgraced himself by this performance. I could respect someone continuing to fight and trying not to get knocked out if he is actually fighting back but not if your whole strategy is to try to survive to the end by finding every mean to not fight. Exposed and disgraced.

 

If that was one of the worst things you have seen happen inside the ring you must be pretty new to the sport.

Kind of puts it in perspective really. Paulie gave a good effort, will have to live with having the towel thrown in, but in 20-30 years time should be able to bounce his grandkids on his knee and tell them about his career. Everything is relative.

 

Both men became brain damaged because of damage suffered in the ring. I don't wish to youtube them but you may be able to find the fights if you look around. Michael Watson fought Chris Eubank and Gerald Mclellan fought Nigel Benn. There have been other fighters that have been less fortunate than Watson and Mclellan.

Sure, Paulie will have to deal with his corner throwing in the towel and his pride will suffer, but this is a serious sport with serious consequences. If you can look back on a career and say that the worst thing to happen to you was that your pride was hurt, that you won world titles, fought for a million dollars, and lost to a great fighter from your era, in my humble opinion you have no complaints at all. I hope Paulie will be able to do this, he seems like a good bloke.
