I don't see anything wrong with the stoppage. The amount of punishment was not the reason for this stoppage so the Cotto argument is invalid. Paulie just gave up and his trainer recognized it. If Paulie trully did not want the fight stopped he should have tried harder.

How many fighters from 20-30 years ago do you think could be living better lives today if the people they paid to look out for them actually saved them from taking more punishment than they had to?

If Tex Cobb had left his fight w/ Holmes w/ brain damage, would you think that letting the fight go on to its ""natural conclusion" was the best thing for him? If you say 'yes,' then you're an idiot and deserve to be stripped of your boxing fan license.

Stupid stoppage by the idiot McGirt who wanted to be dramatic and get his face on camera. I'd be pissed off if I was Malinaggi too.

Paulie was taking a beating and absorb a lot of shots and you know what I wouldn't blame the trainer. I mean if he's out there just to survive why even bother to continue the fight. Paulie wasn't throwing nothing just holding and trying to survive the round. I know Paulie **** off but I agree with the trainer stop the fight before he absorb anymore damage.

Taking a beating my ass, he hadn't even been down once. And if he really was taking a beating than why didn't he stop it earlier. Answer: because he's a dumbass.

i didnt mind the stoppage at all. malignaggi wasnt doing anything to malignaggi at that point and there was still another round to go. why let your fighter take so many uneccessary shots when hes basically got no chance of winning?

Exactly! I can't understand people saying that he was a warrior in the ring, that he deserves better, he lost a lot of respect for the way he fought that night, he was desperate.

If he really thinks he's better than being stopped then the way to prove that is not doing everything he can from to prevent himself being hit and then hugging Hatton's waist when he is, but actually trying to fight his way out of trouble or at least using that speed he talks so much about.

Don't get me wrong, I gained a lot of respect for him as a person but lost much more as a fighter.

Was a joint decision by DiBella, their solicitor and McGirt and it sounds very much like the idea came from the solicitor.

He would have been down at least three times (at least a glove or knee on the canvass) if he hadn't grabbed hole of Rick's waist as soon as he felt his legs wobble.

I don't think its just about this particular stoppage, its just that this is something Mcgirt does all the time. Almost half the fights I see Mcgirt in the corner for he stops or threatens to stop.

of course he was, every punch you take you are in worse shape, and it only takes one punch for something bad to happen. you fight to win and he wasn't going to win and by that point wasn't even trying to win, jus survive.

If he was still fighting hard, OK, i could understand the complaints.

But Malinnagni wasn't doing anything offensively whatsoever!
All he did was get low, backpedal, and continue survival mode. Plus he has no power. McGirt told him about it and he still didn't change anything at all.

    Good stoppage.
