With that being said, Joe beat Bhop and Jones in the same year. That is enought for me and the boxing experts like Steward, Hagler, and Merchant.
Yup and everyone thought the same when Dawson fought Johnson. Dawson is faster and hits harder than Kessler.
Dont you remember how many people said Pavlik would beat Hop? Look what happened. I'm not saying Hop cant beat Kessler. I'm just saying Kessler is a better all around fighter and has more heart than the one dimensional Pavlik.
He may be faster. A great Jab can take the speed factor away. ****, Kessler has some fast hands also. Plus, Kessler has not been knocked down 4 times. One time bye a jab from the featherfisted Harding.
And how do we know he would beat Pavlik? Who did he beat that was on Pavliks level? Everyone said Cotto would out box marg easy and on paper it looked that way but when the fight happened it was a diffferent story.
i dont care who it's "enough" for. the bottom line is calzaghe fought two guys who he should've fought 10 years ago, never did, but it left a bad enough taste in his mouth that he had to pursue them once they had past their prime. now he's trying to end his career riding off wins against them. beating these guys in the same year now isn't going to erase the paradox that is joe calzaghe - but if he had done it 10 years ago then he would be great unquestionably - instead of him having to repeatedly say it now as if he made a difference. you know what i'm saying. i can tell by your response. calzaghe's an excellent fighter. maybe the best fighter in recent history who chose a career path like this.
Dawson showed he had a good jab as well when he fought Tarver, who is a good defensive fighter. Look Kessler is a decent fighter but until he beats a fighter as a good as a glen johnson or Tarver, he can't be takin too seriously as Dawson.
now you're judging a guy who's fought hopkins - and taylor twice - against a guy whos lost to calzaghe. dont compare fighters who have proved themself on the world stage to those who are exciting but who havent done it - and arent trying to do it now.
What about Carl Froch, Arthur Abraham, Bute, Inakin etc etc. There is always another up and coming fighter so when can JC retire?
Calzaghe will never be able to prove he's the greatest. No matter who he beats from here on out, he'll never convince me that he's better than Jones or Hopkins.
Are you serious? There are posters here who think Tarver and Johnson were old. Tarver beat a bunch of guys who were past it, and Johnson has up and down wins and losses, and never has beaten a top of the line prime boxer which isn't a knoc, just the truth. Tarver and Johnson are fine fighters, but Hop beat both.
But struggling to a close SD win over a 40 yr old Johnson and beating up on a past prime Tarver gets you the shot at Calzaghe. While i agree Dawson is one of only a few names left out there for Calzaghe, dont get all crazy thinking if Joe beats Chad it would elevate Calzaghe's standing in the eyes of people that dont rate him. There is no career defing fight left for Calzaghe and none to bolster his standing in any ATG list. Even if Dawson went on achieve world domination, he would be refered to as "green" when faced with Calzaghe in any debate. Risk Vs Reward is still the biggest factor when taking on fights and Dawson offers nothing at the momment, and he's only got about 7 months to change that. It's unforunate for Dawson there isnt an obvious way of going about getting Calzaghe in the ring.
