Calderon was also included out of the blue. It's not surprising. The Ring listings are very political and the flavour of the day always get a slot. They're not consistent about the way they rank fighters p4p at all...
Just as expected. A lot of Latino bias. The Ring is done as a worthwhile place to look for objective ratings.
Hatton shouldn't be on the list, but good call on Vic Darchinyan, I forgot all about him. Sometimes you have to question this p4p top 10 business. How in earth is Hatton above Darchinyan, considering both fighters last performances. Hatton defeated Paulie Malianaggi, whereas Vic destroyed Cristian Mijares? Rafael Marquez is coming off back to back losses, wheras Paul Williams is coming off wins over Margarito, Quintana, and against an unknown Middleweight. I'll have to take p4p with a pinch of salt.
Raf, Calderon, Hatton and Cotto do not belong in the top 10. Pavlik and Hatton lost to two of the best fighters in the world, and were thrown out of the top 10 yet Cotto and Raf Marquez lost, and stayed in the top 10. Hatton beats Malignaggi, and he is back in the top 10???:nut. Pac being ranked over Cal as best pfp also shows the lunacy in Dlh's Ring mag lol. Pac's last few fights show that since 2006, he has only fought 1 guy who was capable of beatinh him since the second Morales fight. The Ring sucks lol...
Its quite simple. Rafael Marquez is latino (even better, he is Mexican!) and Paul Willimas is not. The good news, however, is that since the criteria for easy success on The Ring lists is "be or beat - a latino!". This means that Paul Willimas should have a chance as he has already beaten several.
I had Vazquez beating Marquez 114-111 in the rubber match thats why there is a gap between the two of them.
Darchinyan lost and drew in two of his last four fights. Granted, his last two wins were over quality opponents, but it's tough to rank him in the top 10. Hatton on the other hand beat down the clear #2 in his weight class, only has one loss to the P4P #1, and, whether or not he's looked shitty at time doing it, has beaten 5 beltholders or former beltholders in the last 2 years (and seven in his last 3, including Tszyu). He has more than enough resume to make the top 10, and you can make a colorable argument that he could be as high as 7.
I've never been comfortable with Margarito at 6 either. Top 10 certainly, but maybe 9 or 10, with Cotto outright removed. He wasn't even top 25 prior to the Cotto victory, I can't see 6. Juan Diaz was ranked 10 at the time Campbell beat him, Campbell didn't even get top 20 consideration after. That type of stuff I find insulting.
Marquez's two losses were also close losses to the P4P #5, who just happens to be a weight class up from Marquez's natural weight class. Inactivity should knock him and Vasquez down at some point, but I personally have those two higher than they're rated by Ring's list.
How do you know that, Ring only ranks 1 - 10, not 1 - 20. Campbell's on almost every top 20 list out there, despite only having two good wins (and five losses) on his resume.
There is kind of a psuedo top 20, with the top 11-15 being top 10 possibilities. I guess that's where most would have Darchinyan, Dawson and the like right now. Campbell is never mentioned, that was my point and he schooled a then 10 ranked Diaz. Yet Margarito jumps to 6? Cotto was #7 I believe, he ought to be removed. Hatton was removed for losing to Floyd, I think losing to Margarito is worse than losing to the P4P #1, personally.
Close losses? Raf beat Izzy the first time. Raf then lost two fights in a row. One by tko, and the other by a unanimous decision if I'm not mistaken. How are those two close losses?
