Name recognition, the guy has a great name that rolls of the tounge...."Oscar De La Hoya"....the guy is handsome, looks good on TV, attracts a wider demographic of people from women to casual fans. The guy is smart, articulate, can given an interview without resorting to incoherent trash talking nonsense. The guy is savvy, runs the biggest Promotions company in the World, makes the big fights happen and makes the money flow around and into the sport.

 

because he is a pretty boy, who became the golden boy, and fought some all-time greats and also beat some of them, if Oscar De Hoya looked as pretty as Andrew 'Kid Thunder' Hartley....well he might not be the money maker he is now, but you never know.:think

 

Someone sounds pretty hot for Oscar, but if Oscar could not fight for **** it would not matter how good looking he is, but seeing as he does have some great Win's in his career and can still draw the female fan's with his looks and still fights well then he deserves to be the big money maker he is.

Love him or hate him, he bring interest to the sport of boxing and that helps keep the sport relevent and that is all that matters, end of story:yep

Because the sport of boxing is all about self-promotion... His good looks, talent and gold medal performance in Barcelona allowed him to be ridiculously marketable throughout the 90s... His ability to generate interest has always relied on his appeal to the casual boxing fan and even non-boxing fans (Do thousands of screaming girls still turn up to his fights...?).
He may be a bit older now and a few times beaten but he still has his golden boy name...

DLH is a excellent boxer. Yes, he passed his prime. But still good.
Now,that said, his success has nothing to do with boxing. DLH is a "nene lindo". He got famous because he made thousands of young ladies go to boxing matches. Women love him. And that sells!!!!!!!!!

the reason is he was a bloody good fighter at his ideal weight and had the power, KO's and looks to match.

when oscar fights its the general public he appeals too - which any fighter with any sort of pull has to also.
