Calzaghe - only fighter to beat both Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr.

They fought in the same year how the hell does roughly 8 months make a difference? He was still 43 regardless

 

Not everyone loses their prime at the same age as another. RJJ is shot, Cal is not nor is b-hop. Roy hasn' done anything since he got KO'D a while back, at least B-Hop fought and beat up Tarver and after cal beat up Pavlik. Even B-Hop felt sorry for Roy -- it is sad.

And Cal even said that he was not going to fight Roy before, because Roy was shot -- way past his prime and how he was once great, but that was a long time ago. Roy shouldn't have even been in the same ring with Cal -- B-Hop was LHW champ and Cal was challenging him! Roy hasn't been close to being a champ since he got KO'd by the magic man.

You know, he was so overrated. One dimensional, plodding, no skills. Calzaghe just exposed all the flaws Jeff already had. The win means nothing. Look at how Jeff struggled with Manfredo for **** sakes!

HOPKINS - BEFORE
The p4p master is going to school Calzaghe. Finally! Hops is a defensive genius with a zen-like ability to control pace and suddenly strike. He's going to tag that overrated Welshman all ****ing night. See these words? Mark them.

HOPKINS - AFTER
Look, the guy's 43 years old and the victory wasn't even that decisive. So Joe's supposed to brag about beating a 43-year old? Real classy, white boy. Why don't you just fight my grandfather? But, really though, Hopkins is great.

ROY JONES - BEFORE
OK, first of all, Roy is shot. So IF Calzaghe wins that means nothing since he's fighting a husk of a former great. But if Jones wins, that means he still has enough left of his former self to expose that ****ing Italian Welshman for what he is. There. I think I finally covered myself. Wait let me just think: If Calz wins he fought a shot fighter; if Jones wins, Calzaghe was always overrated. Yep, that works!

ROY JONES - AFTER
Ha! See! Clazaghe was picking on an old man who's skills had deteriorated beyond recognition. It was a sad spectacle of a fight and I give Calzaghe no credit for beating a man my blind and dead great grandmother could have beaten. Boo, Calzaghe!! Boo!!!

 

Calzaghe is a legend. I really thought Jones was going to beat him but boy Calzaghe woop that ass. Peoples are making it seems like Roy Jones is over the hill but Roy Jones is not shot yet. If he was to fight some other opponent he would look totally sharper. I really give Joe credit for beating Jones because he totally outclass Jones, even fighting face to face, head to head, and fighting with his hand down. I never thought that one day I would ever see someone fighting Roy Jones exposing themself like that. That was a master performance.

 

Basically, beating Jones & Hopkins looks good on paper. But the actual wins in reality dont look so well

 

Hopkins was the underdog on this site. I'd say it was about 65/35 picking Calzaghe by a wide decisive margin. Let's not rewrite the history books.

 

beating hopkins at any time in his career is an achievement and i think most fight fans would agree but beating a 2008 roy jones says nothing i mean lets face it jones was done after tarver knocked him out facts are facts beating a prime jones would say something for your career but i truly dont think calzaghe would have beat jones in his prime

 

This is sort of stupid. Many people who have loss went on to still be great, they proved that they were good. Lacy was hyped up, seeing what Lacy has done since then, in hindsight he was never that good to begin with, who the hell did he beat anyways?

B-Hop was a good win, many give Calzaghe a lot of credit for that win. You know why, which you failed to mention? Because AFTER that whole fight B-Hop went on to completely school and dominate Pavlik, proving that he was still good and not really out. So this makes Calzaghe's victory better in hindsight. RJJ was shot, no one told you otherwise before the fight. The guy hasn't done **** in years but get KO'd and fight unranked guys -- Calzaghe himself before said he would not fight RJJ because he was wayyyyy past it, but then he changed his mind.

as for hopkins, a was still a good win but even though hopkins is still good at 43, he not as good as he was at 36 and he did get dropped and had to get a SD vs. hop.

 

Calzaghe would beat Bute even easier than he did Kessler. I would have to slightly favor Dawson though because of his size and workrate.

 

you are clearly delusional to say jones is not shot , at 160 and 168 he would never have backed into corners and allowed himself to be hit as many times as calzaghe hit him without firing back and no one post tarver would have been crazy enough to come in with their hands down and chin out simply because they would have been knocked out . and i really would like to know who jones would look sharper against at his weight class . i give joe credit for doing what he said he would do but it says nothing it just looks good on paper :good
