I wanted Bernard to win, but he surrendered too many rnds by not punching.

Leonard... Hagler wasted many rounds doing nothing.

I agree, wholeheartedly. It is a case where the amount of indecision is actually warranted and justified.

But we knew this going into the fight as Hagler was the bigger man & harder puncher.

I thought Leonard completely outboxed him in the 1st 6 rds & even tho Marvin made a good comeback in the 2nd half of the fight, Leonard did more than enough to retain his early lead.

Ive watched this fight A LOT & here is my view......

    1. Leonard
    2. Leonard
    3. Leonard
    4. Leonard
    5. Hagler
    6. Leonard (close)
    7. Hagler
    8. Hagler
    9. Hagler (close)
    10. Hagler (close)
    11. Leonard
    12. Leonard (close)

    115-113 Leonard.

Ps. Im not saying that the rds that I didnt mark as`close`where all clearly won, its just that the rds marked`close`where the REAL CLOSE ones that could have gone to the other guy, ones that needed to be rewatched more than once to pick a winner.

This fight epitomizes the subjectivity of judging fights.

If you have Hagler winning, you're not wrong.

If you have Leonard winning, you're not wrong.

Some judges favor ring generalship over defense. Some vice versa. In close, competetive fights, it is not uncommon to see varying opinions about who won since everyone has their own definition of what "winning" is.

I had it for Hagler, but by no means was it a robbery. I concede that he gave up too many early rounds (a bit like Hopkins did against Taylor in their 1st fight) and ended up being outpointed (in the judges' perspective) by a guy he outfought down the stretch.

Leonard won 7or 8 rounds depending on the mood I'm in.

Having watched this fight about 100 times including live on the night, nothing has changed in my feelings that Hagler won this fight, he started slow for sure but landed the more meaningfful p8nches all night long and wnet hunting Leonard. All I saw from Sugar Ray was flurries of punches in the last minute to 30 seconds of each round trying to steel the round (which appears to have been succesful looking at the official scorecards). However looking at the fight in more detail over the years you can see more and more that the majority of Leonards punches do not actually land on anything other then Haglers Gloves or arms where as nealry all of Marvins Body shots land cleanly but obviously seem not to have been noticed. I cant help feeling that due to all the hyope surrounding Leonards comeback after 4 years he was carried to an undeserving victory on a wave of sentimental emotion. I for one was acvtually rooting for Leonard but to this day I still dont se how he got the decision.

Although I scored Calzaghe-Hopkins 114-113 (for Joe C) I had Hagler winning this one because he threw and connected with more punches than Hopkins did to Calzaghe's.

Don't get me wrong, similar stylistic matchup, but after a bad start I had Hagler winning by two rounds.

I can see why people score it for Leonard, but I honestly think the best result would've been a draw.
