Evander Holyfield's fight with Nicolai Valuev was announced a while ago yet the WBA ratings at that time showed Holyfield wasn't rated by them.

New October ratings were released on the 24th November and Holyfield suddenly appeared at #12, taking the place of JD Chapman.

That Chapman was ever rated by the WBA is another story, but why he drops out to make way should be explained by the WBA and in my view highlighted and questioned by the boxing press. Chapman last fought (and won) in February, yet is replaced by somebody who last fought over a year ago. A fight that he lost.

It should be noted that the WBA's very own website declares that Sergei Lyakhovich was removed from the WBA's earlier September rankings due to inactivity and losing his last two fights. Those same ratings also declare that Chapman dropped three places that month through inactivity. Like Chapman, Lyakhovich's last fight was in February. Again, a more recent fight than Holyfields.

It just proves that the WBA is a joke. They also had Sergei ranked when he hasn't fought since February and was coming off 2 straight losses. Ridiculous.

Worst case I ever noticed was Gary Lockett before he fought Pavlik. He wasn't even in the WBC top 40 but, without fighting, went to no 15 (the min ranking to be allowed a title shot under their rules,) the month before the Pavlik fight.

And wtf he was doing at no 1 with the WBO I'll never know.

It's an absolute joke what goes on with them all.

christ..it does make you wonder, doesnt it...
same with wayne mccullough being mentioned for a batamweight world title shot...
the examples mentioned above, without looking into it too much, looks like it makes a mockery of the sport..

Its just the modern game these arseholes have taken upon themselves to play. If Joe Louis was alive, and half capable of holding his hands up for 30 seconds, any governing body would sanction a fight for him against any H/W champ. They would give him a ranking, due to the fact it might draw an audience. There are no morals amongst the governing bodies..... for the last 35 years, its deteriorated.
MONEY, MONEY, MONEY. Anything that sells has no value, other than monetory value. Money has no value, unless its being spent... the more money being made, the less morals in question. The filthy maggots who have turned the "governing bodies" into the same immoralistic filth as the IOC, deserve to be shot on site. The reason the Boxing game is full of less-than-reasonable champions, is due to the money which goes to the governing bodies, via any fight being sanctioned. IT WILL NOT CHANGE IN OUR LIFETIME.
Hundreds of possibly fantastic fight will continue to escape us, as match ups are too risky for the money makers.

    They've done that, have they?

What an absolute ****ing joke. Notice they didn't have the sheer balls to try to put him in their top 10.

Who knew beating the crap out of Lou Savarese was so valuable? Someone get Michael Grant and Kirk Johnson on the phone, there's a WBA spot ready and waiting for them.

Commander Evander should be ranked where he wants, when he wants.

He wants a shot at the flyweight title..you better give his bald arse a ranking at fly.

Sad state of affairs this is....especially sometimes when there's some good fighters trying hard to get a good ranking and never do...then some old name comes along and jumps in way ahead of them. Corrupt it is, but in sport its not about sport really its about money and money talks.
