Not even watched it yet but guess he was falling in, getting caught by silly punches, with very little impressive stuff in between. Don't get the excitement with this kid... i'll watch it when I get in but I think I know what i'm going to see.

I'm not sure I agree with that. If he'd not fought for the British title so soon in his career at his age and won a non title fight against someone of the sort of standing of Pickering I'd be quite impressed.

To judge on the basis of being British champion really depends on the level of opposition it takes to win it, and the lower the weights the less you have to do.

Pickering was VERY defensive and slippery so it's a hard performance to judge.

He is too eager to please but hopefully he'll mature out of that.

Benny King spoke more than anyone in the corner, seemed to take the role upon him. Yeah he is cutsman but he's got more experience in the corner than them all together....if the other names i saw serves me right,yes/no ?

I really miss seeing Benny in "THAT" kappa tracksuit :good

I think you'll see an improvement on last time, his defence was much better but still needs a lot of work as does cutting off the ring - he chased Pickering all over the place and was running out of steam a bit at the end.

At least with his interview afterwards he was honest and knows he needs to improve. You hear so many people talk about Euro and World level fights when they havent even cleaned out domestically.

    Did you go to school?

Given that he fights at lightweight and Appleby is a feather dont you think thats a rather clueless comment.

Not read the post but i think Paul should of stepped again in the 2nd round, 1st was great, got a feeling he was told to calm the beans etc

Also seemed to head-hunt when in the middle rounds and its his body work that really breaks people down.
Saying that, look at the spec/rec on them both, he did well.

Was it just me, but did he not have Pickering searching for something in the first, i was surprised at this but didnt see Paul going like this for 12 ! ( Didnt see no 2nd wind )

As said, just look at the spec/rec, he done well

    Yes..

I am just saying, Amir Khan will smack him out in general.

I don't care about the topic, it's a boring topic. About two boring fighters...

Even though Appleby was chasing Pickering about for 12 rounds i thought Pickering got away at times quite easily. Appleby should be pacing himself better and know when to press and when to let the opponent come on to him.

I agree, Appleby was trying to walk him down but pickering was a bit too smart to let it happen. A good learning experience for Appleby against an experienced opponent.
Appleby does need to work on his eagerness for the knock out and also his defence. As someone said earlier his jaw is wide open when he throws his big punches. He is also very wide with a lot of hooks leaving a big gap down the middle and a few times tonight he was hit coming out of a clinch - against a bigger puncher he could suffer for this.
All in all though he has done well to be where he is after so few fights. He shouldn't rush his next step up though, needs a few more domestic scraps that improve his weaknesses (defence and eagerness).

Glad to see Appleby was unhappy with his performance and not calling for world title shot's like certain other fighter's at his stage.

Appleby knows himself he needs to improve. better learning in these sort of fights though than being a FW fighter and building up a padded record with 4 and 6 rounders and learning nothing?
