    I'm surprised only one guy mentioned Mayweather Jr. (then again, it's limited to active fighters, so Floyd misses out by about a year).

    The guy was a scholar of the ring.

    Hopkins is #1 and Winky(imo) is #2. The way he dominated trinnidad(even though he had the two year layoff after his first defeat!) was pretty damn incredible and his victory over mosley, ike courtey and jermain taylor(well it was a draw but true boxing fans know who won that).

    The most intelligent fighter is the fighter that doesn't lose, boxing is about winning! Winning = success = intelligence, like a chess match!
    Whoever mentioned Ali was a good point but Ali didn't lose to the same guy twice he adapted.
    Hopkins didnt do that even against Taylor in the second fight!

    yes shaky after 5 lol..cotto is all balls..not sure about smarts...chris john is not smart enough to leave indonesia..guzman is not smrt enough to make weight and marquez is not smart enough to not go to ar with izzy every second of the fight

    i WOULD SAY jmm wlad and even hatton are smart fighters
