Wow, some of these posters are rather pathetic. Have you ever fought? Have you ever been in a situation where the fatigue is so great you can barely keep your arms up (much lees punch) WHILE you are taking hard powershots?

I don`t think Oscar is a quitter. Kind of reminds me of when Arguello sitting with his arms crossed around his knees against Pryor in bout #2. Looking cooly into the refs eyes, nodding while being counted out.Before everyone goes and says that it was different cause Pryor had Arguello on the deck. Oscar looked totally shot against a younger, faster, more mobile opponent. The look on his face said he knew he didn`t have it, he didn`t want to quit. But to go on would be utterly pointless. Beristan was the one stopping it anyway, he knew his charge didn`t have it. Like many other greats, he fought that one fight too many...

Did you watch the fight? Did you see the 7th round when he was being pummeled? It was sad watching the Old warrior get a betting like that? I am not a fan of DLH but I ddn't feel happy watching him in those instances. I'm just wondering if you were in his situation. Enough...:nono

I just hope every ODLH fan that went on and on and on about guys like Kostya Tszyu, Duran etc being "quitters" when saying about hypothetical fights with ODLH will now just shut the **** up about who's a quitter and who isn't.

 

Oscar is a Hall of Fame fighter. Many times guys of that level cannot take big punishment. Remember, Oscar never took many shots in his career since he was so good and fast; no one hit him. But in my mind he was always a little fragile. Hopkins only needed one good left to the body to stop Oscar. Oscar just got a little slower when he got older and is not that durable. Quartey barely hit Oscar and Oscar went down. He just never took much punishment ever. He was that good and his counters kept guys away. But he is great no doubt. Quitter? No. If it is your body taking that punishment, why would you want to just take it without a chance of winning. That was understandable.

 

The quitter argument stands when you consider how easily Hoya accepted defeat. He never tried to change his strategy once it was clear plan A wasn't working.
He was getting boxed to pieces for 8 rds and he never friggin tried to bum rush Pac ONCE and land a lucky shot.

He chose to play the role of an human punching bag.

 

Oscar quit, there is no mistake about it. Nacho asked him if he wanted to quit or if he wanted to go another round, Oscar was quiet and just sat there. They asked him again if he wanted to quit and he just stayed quiet.

 

He tried, and he couldn't do it anymore. His corner and the doctor wanted it to end, so he did want they told him. He quit because Manny is that good and dangerous. Great Namath picture.

Fighters sometimes quit. Fighters greater than De La Hoya. It happens.

 

You could pretty much tell he realised he was totally ****ed after 1 round, just by the look on his face, he took a lot of punches, no one can question his chin. I think the ref would have stopped it in the next round anyway, and if not, Pac wasn't going to stop him cold, so he would have administered a ferocious beating at the frequency he was landing. It was the type of sustained beating that goes hand in hand with long term damage, and this point in his career why risk it?

 

Hi bitched out again, there's no other way of slicing it. He didn't protest and infact was waiting for someone to stop it for him.....the man is a phoney and a joke. The most slimy, overrated sportsman of a generation.
