CARL FROCH passed the toughest test of his career to be crowned world champion — after nearly being kept out of the ring by a rib injury.

The problem was so bad that promoter Mick Hennessy considered postponing the showdown with Jean Pascal.
But ‘The Cobra’ defiantly went into battle to take the WBC super-middleweight crown on a unanimous points decision, after a thrilling tear-up in front of his home fans in Nottingham.
Froch, 31, also had to cope with a cut eye, which had still not completely healed going into the fight, and had also only recently recovered from a perforated ear drum.
He admitted: I cracked my ribs on Friday last week and it has given me difficulty breathing.
I was going to have an injection for it to stop the pain but I didn’t in the end.
I didn’t want to put off the fight until after Christmas so I went for it. But he threw a couple into my ribs in the first round and I thought he must have heard about my injury. I did the perforated ear drum in sparring and felt it in the fight. It affects your balance. I wasn’t 100 per cent.

Injured also, no wonder he wasn't his usual self, and he managed to mix up his usual game, he showed he isn't a one dimensional fighter, and has a realistic chance of beating anyone infront of him, including Kessler, who would be favourite I admit.

No fighter is ever 100%. Usually we hear about injuries when a fighter loses...this is like RJJ beating Hopkins with a broken hand...not comparing Froch-Pascal to Hopkins...just the injury...

    We'll see how he develops.

I agree, though he has been rather unjustly critisised on here after his win, I was somewhat suprised, he showed a completely diff fighter , and showed me that he has a lot to his game, I used to think his defence was pretty good, if he had those injuries, it would explain his defence, but to win such a brutal fight in itself againsta very good boxer was impressive, injuries into account, very very impressive.

Froch is a good fighter, in fact, i've changed my mind that Pascal would lose to Froch, just search my post and it will be there.
But his jab is bizzare lol, but great, great ****in chin

Froch talked so much **** before the fight now he feels the need to come with excuse because he lost 4-5 rounds.

dude, pascal gassed after the 6th round... anyone can win againts a fighter that is gassing... furthermore, pascal had no tune up fight before this fight after fighting his last 2 fights with only one arm.. he is just starting to get comfortable with his right hand... Froch is a solid technical durable boxer with a touch of talent but a fight between the 2 in 2 years, pascal takes it by a sound beating ;)

Pascal gassed out because he launched bomb after bomb at Froch, and of course he couldn't do that for 12rounds, teh guy fought a great fight, showed a great chin himself and heart, be pleased with that alone, he just isn't as good as Froch, doesn't mean Pascals not a good fighter, he'd have knocked most people out with teh shots he landed.

well thats the problem, since pascal only rely on power shots and his explosiveness, if he trains really hard he can probably improve his cardio and endurance to last about 9 rounds at the same pace he is currently boxing... But to last 12 rounds and become elite, he ll need to add weapons to his repertoire, improve technically, improve his jab, mix things up instead of wasting so much energy on power shots...

btw, i see Bute being a better version of Froch, but just as Andrade proved, Bute can gass and Froch seem the more durable of the 2... Id like to see that fight..

Haven't watched it yet, but from what I hear Froch did a damn good job in this one.

    I gotta say I like Froch's style.
