    Great thread.

Was indeed a fantastic fight. Arguello was a true sportsman.

The right cross Arguello hits Mancini with in the (13th?) which makes him go to a knee before bouncing back up is awesome, it goes right through him.

I can't see anyone from nowadays beating Arguello, though Pacman/Marquez would make it close. I see Arguello stopping both of them though. Pacman would be winning by five or six rounds after 8 but Arguello would be waiting, then-Combination.

His combos were truly a sight to behold.

Glad to see this thread after PowerPuncher dissed Arguello's skillsets for so long in the top 10 lw thread.....glad to see I wasn't on my own (never doubted that anyway, Alexis was clearly a master)

The Mancini fight was the classic Alexis 'Matador' performance, and Mancini was super-tough. Arguello looked pretty awesome in this fight.

The interview after Arguello-Pryor 2 is heartbreaking. If both of them really had retired after that fight it would've been a fitting end to both careers; Alexis is crying but the announcer tells him he has nothing to be sad about. Then Pryor bigs him up and they hug! It's so sad, to see two of my heroes so drained and emotional literally brought me to tears!

And to think, they're still friends to this day. Alexis knows Pryor didn't need the 'black bottle' to win, they both have huge respect for each other, as do Arguello and Mancini for each other.

Put all three of those guys in today and they'd do very wellin their respective divisions. Arguello would clean up FW and SFW (surely the Indonesians couldn't rob Alexis!!!) and I think Mancini would do okay at LW. Pryor would clean up LWW, I only see Hatton giving him a real fight, though this version of Hatton would be stopped on cuts or corner stoppage after about six or seven rounds IMO. The Hatton that beats Tszyu makes it closer but still loses.

:good Great point, Aruello did get a little bit more wooden at LW/LWW; I think that is because he loaded up on his shots more. Maybe he felt more powerful at the weight, which is strange as he was a destroyer at FW/SFW!

No way Arguello gets pegged as boring. At least not by serious boxing fans. Have you seen his fights with Escalera. Trust me, Pryor wasn't the only guy Alexis went to war with.

Arguello vs Escalera 2 is an absolute war. Multiple knockdowns, and Escalera starts to bust alexis up after the first couple of round. Great fight.

    Alexis is anything but boring.

That's pretty close to a peak Arguello in the Escalera fights. Personally I think it is a shame that most younger fans only know Alexis for his losses to Pryor. I won't disrespect Pryor, but it is a fact that he was in the ring with shop worn Arguello. Pryor/Arguello I was Alexis' 82nd or 83rd pro fight. The man had been fighting at the highest levels of the sport for 8 years. Yes there were some tune-up and stay busy fights in there, but he also fought Marcel, Escalera X 2, Castillo, Olivares, Watt, Chacon, Limon, Edwards, Ramirez, Gannigan, Mancinni, et. El Flaco Explosivo was was damn good at 140, but his best days had come and gone by the time he faced Pryor.

A truly superb performance by both fighters. Arguello's right to the body, followed by his right cross to chin, is the picture perfect combo.

The final KO is amazing ... those nasty left hooks followed by that right ... Mancini looked as dizzy as Rocky Balboa ...
