Age limits should not be enforced. Rocky gave Mason "The Line" Dixon the toughest fight of his life when he was nearly 60!
boxing doesnt need any age limits... todays fighters and future fighters are now more aware and cautious...
they can make a limit of 35 for middleweight and lower weight because they are the most affected about the age Heavyweight and Cruiser can fight well with 35 years of age a Featherweight can't.
i dont see any reason for cutting a pro boxers career by the time he is 35, there are some guys out there that are in superb condition past that age and would put a lot of guys in their 20's to shame. as long as someone looks after themself and can still box at a high standard then they should be left to decide for themselves. a good idea would be to have regular health checks for boxers over a certain age but i believe they do that anyway in some countries!!!!
the point is that holyfield in NOT allowed to box in switzerland because of his age. the swiss federation jumped off and losing a lot of money. sauerland now has organized with the austrian boxing federation which has an age limit of 40. i personally think that 35 limit is nonsense since there are so many great fighters out there.
Poster above you already answered this. Hoyfield v Valuev is supervised by the Austrian boxing federation.
is he 46 i thought 45 or still 44 but hell i dont keep up with his age. but speaking of that fight i seen on front page bout they saying george did it at 45 can toney at 40 but i do think they forgetting holyfeild is fighting for a title. what happen if he wins? at his age?? they're is some i think need to hang em up but its something them and their family must discuss.
true and it happen with benard and pavlik vitaly and peter. though im with dawson many do believe johnson won that fight but that was one hell of a showdown. age limit we would never seen these fights plus others.
Walcott, Louis, Tyson, Ali, Dempsey, Johnson, Jefferies, Liston, L.Spinks, Quarry,....... hundreds of fighters have been involved in good quality bouts after the age of 35... this is still a fair age to perform, although the injury risk is paramount. Over 40, the rounds should be limited... time will suggest just how these men will fare in later life.
