Can you recognize the boxer on this picture?

I orginally thought Lopez or Termite Watkins, then decided on Armando Muniz, but it looks most like Viruet. It's looks nothing like Monzon in my opinion.


ps. I KNOW it isn't Benny Benitez. Benny was much darker and usually wore an afro.

 

Termite Watkins was white, not hispanic. He had straight brown hair that he wore in a '70s style "hair helmet". As for Armando Muniz, he also had straight hair, and he was much more squat and blocky looking than the guy in the picture.

As for Benny Benitez, I'm surprised you even saw a picture of him, as he was a club fighter from Connecticut who only had about five or six pro fights.

 

I know Watkins was white, he still is. But I just thought the guy looked like him, it was my first instinct until I realised he was probably hispanic.

Also, I have seen pics of Benitez- two in fact and it's not him. :good

 

Your pics must be from the Ken Buchanan fight. I am surprised that Benitez was even allowed to fight Buchanan. Benitez had less than five pro fights at the time.

And yes, it was odd someone with so little experience was given a fight with Kenny (even if he was in his twilight).

 

That looks exactly like Benny Benitez.

 

Can someone help me out here as I can only see one photo of who I'm pretty sure is Carlos Monzon.
I remember watching the Benitez - Buchanan fight, It was Buchanan's first comeback fight and was on the undercard of Dave "boy" Green losing his European title fight against Jorgen Hansen.
I remember Benitez as Conteh described him.

Cheers mate. Hard to say for sure, it's been a long time but I suppose that could be him.

 

It is hard to say mate. But it looks a lot like him. If a bloke I worked with said he was Benny Benitez and looked like this, then it's very likely to be him.

 

Don't see the picture of Benitez or Gary Shaw you're referring to, o. The big close-up is Monzon.

Had alotta amateurs and a few pros in the '70s; if you can post a picture, perhaps I can help.
