I think with Floyd it's because it's a natural weight for him. Whereas for Oscar, these days 154 or even 160 is probably more natural for him.
IMO Oscar and co knew what they were doing. These people are among the best in the boxing world we're talking about, these guys are no amateurs. My theory is they wanted to maintain Oscar's weight below 150 to show that the fight is competitive and/or match Pac's speed in the ring. They've been saying it all the time, it's Pac's speed they must neutralize. Aside from timing his punches, Oscar must move fast as well.
i think weight has somthing to do with it and oscar never listens to his corner. oscar got arrogent did his own thing. manny got better and dosent seem like nacho is making any excuses except for the oscar not listening. plus the transilator was pretty good this time around for nacho. the last marquez fight the transilator was way way off. this is the first time the transilator got the jist of what nacho was saying. through marquez's last two fight i wanted to choke the transilator becuase it made nacho sound like a idiot.
very scientific BUT....... he got more than 100 M $ in the bank and 40 plus fight and criss crossed different weight divisions and got nacho on his side who worked for 20 plus champions.... are you getting the picture?? i guess that fast twitching fiber, carbo metabolism where krebs cycle goes into work and all that atp production should be thrown at the window. no matter how scientific you explain it, you should know more than that he got all the brightest minds behind him and experiences in crossing different weights.
I think this was all on Oscar. link - http://www.doghouseboxing.com/Chee/Chee1112b08.htm Direct quote - "Nacho Beristain: Well, what I can tell all of you about Oscar's weight is that I was worried a week ago because Oscar was weighing 150 pounds, 149, 148, and he went all the way down to 146. That is obviously not the ideal weight for a fighter that is fighting on December 6 at 147 pounds. So we got together. I talked to De La Hoya and I talked to Rob Garcia who is his nutritionist. And we talked about the subject, and we decided to change a little bit of Oscar's diet. And now Oscar is eating well. He eats more carbs, more protein, and we want to keep him at the weight he is right now. He weighed in at 150 this morning and he needs to still to work out this afternoon." This was interesting though - "Robert Morales, Los Angeles Daily News: Freddie I was just wondering where is in your mind as far as you know where is all this stuff about Victor Ortiz beating up Oscar coming from? Because the Ortiz camp has vehemently denied it and said that they would never do anything like that. Freddie Roach: Do something like what? Robert Morales: Beat up Oscar in training. Freddie Roach: Oh. Just reports from 24/7 actually. One of the guys told me that Victor beat him up; they have it on film. They said it would be on the first episode. But, you know, Victor Ortiz is a friend of mine. I think he's a great sparring partner for Oscar. I think he's much better than Valero. Victor is a great guy; he's on the show." Read this at Pacland when all this rumor was coming out, I didn't know how reliable the source was though. It wasn't an actual article just FYI on the boards. Take it for what it's worth - After the video recorded sparring, Brad has a changed to talk with Ortiz off cam, and showed his concern to his new boss Oscar dela Hoya. He said that "Oscar has no longer a power to knock pacquiao out. He also said that Oscar is hittable, and too old to fight to manny. Oscar has no chance against Manny Pacquiao. Ortiz knew because he was once a sparring partner to Manny. And said that manny is too fast and too strong for oscar. you cant see his where his punches coming, and not an easy target, you trap him a moment but just a fraction of a second hes gone. And hes very durable too. I connected some big punches but i am surprised he still standing. He was under my weight category when we sparred before, how much more now that he weights higher than me now, Manny is now should be very dangerous. A lot of people thought that this fight is a mismatch. And I agree because Oscar is no match against manny", added ortiz.
Nacho is saying that Oscar was fine and the reason he lost is because of the "versatility of Pacquiao". Something I think really was the case. Oscar fought Floyd well just last year. How far down would he go in one year? He was not knocked out since then and he did not take a bad beating. I just think the inactivity hurt him a little, but mainly that Pacman was good. Oscar bit off more than he could chew. Pacman is great.
I don't think so. DLH always said he could easily make 147 all these time - and he did. Perhaps his best fighting weight these days is 154, but he is definitely not dying to make 147.
no at teh end of the day, dlh is repsonsible. hes the one who decided to to go down in wieght to fight a smaller man. it just so happens it back fired.
oscar just couldnt pull the trigger..yes the wieght was an issue but even at 150 he would have still been too slow..he played himself..he should have taken a fight with margarito or cotto so he could be at his best..this is what he gets for trying to pick on the smaller guy
Enzo, the reason he doesnt want to say anything negative is because he probably hasnt gotten paid yet....:yep....Trust me, in a month or two Oscar WILL blame someone for the lost instead of only blaming himself....:yep
