The Most Overrated Fighters - By Weightclass

Tell that to Nino Benvenuti, one of the fastest & most skilled middleweights ever, who was continually outboxed and beaten to the punch by Monzon.

Hopkins is an exceptionally skilled fighter anyway, so how is "not being as skilled as Hopkins" criteria for being overrated?

What do you base this on? When did the lightweight Duran ever fight a fellow great infighter /pressure fighter? Sanchez had all he could handle when guys like Cowdell and a green Azumah Nelson pressured him - why would Armstrong be any "easier"? Mayweather struggled in two fights with Castillo and arguably lost the first - again, what makes Armstrong any "easier"?

You mean the way Judah "beat up" Pineda and Baldomir?? :nono

How did mediocre ass journeyman Baldomir beat Judah? Heck, how did shotass Pineda give him an even fight??

This may seem sacreligious to some, but I think Sugar Ray Robinson was very over-rated at middleweight. He lost almost as many title fights at that weight as he won.(he won the title 5 times because he lost it 5 times) He was flashy, but fairly easy to hit. At welter he was superb, but at middle only very good.

 

Heavyweights are always overated but here are picks that come to mind;

Heavy - Ali, Liston (an enigma) & Fraizer
Super Middle - Calzaghe & Steve Collins
Middle - Lamotta

 

Heavy - Jack Dempsey.

I dont think Roy Jones is overrated, yes there is a large contingent that thought he was God in his prime(like myself), but there is an equally large portion who think he is an overrated fraud, so it kinda evens out...:think

 

We seem to hear this sort of thing from you a lot.

A is better than B because A would have beaten B so it dosnt matter that B has a far deeper resume.

All logic would dictate that Mike Tyson would have beaten James Douglas but he didnt which is why you have to actualy hold the fight to find out.

Theoretical head to head is nothing and actual acomplishments are everything.

As to how Barney Ross might have beaten Zab Judah I would suggest that one of Judahs trademark malfunctions could have done the job nicley.

 

You clearly know very little about the lot... Pep was a freak.. 242 fights aginst 12 loses... Ali is the greatest H/W of all time. Duran was the best at lightweight, and Id like to see him matched with any one else thru history. Bob Foster reigned supreme for a generation..
