Thomas Hearns .Vs. Oscar De La Hoya

I like Hearns via points. De La Hoya certainly has the power in his left hook to cause damage on Hearns. And when De La Hoya knocked an opponent down he wasn't the coolest when going in for the finish. Very erratic. He was just the type to get excited and be wasteful with his shots. This could well see him getting tagged after dropping Hearns, depending on Hearns' condition of course.

De La Hoya's combinations are probably better than Hearns'. Some of the combinations De La Hoya threw are the finest by any boxer I have ever seen. His stamina must be questioned against Hearns at 147 and 154. Below those weights his stamina was never an issue down the stretch. Infact, up until he fought Trinidad he was well known for keeping his foot on the gas late.

Another problem for De La Hoya is when he gets into a jabbing contest with Hearns. He had an excellent jab, but never let it flow. De La Hoya was a thinker and tight technically in there and that hampered his jab output somewhat. Hearns' high jab output would cause De La Hoya major problems. He'd more than likely be getting off with one jab while Hearns was doubling his up.

De La Hoya wasn't a massive 140lb fighter. He was comfortable at the weight and only moved up to welterweight for the bigger money fights. Whitaker, Quartey, and Trinidad were all in the glamour division. It was well documented that when he fought Whitaker that he could still have made 140. Manny Steward called him a 'natural' jr welterweight after he took over as trainer after the Whitaker fight.

 

Like you dont have a little fun at the expense of a fighter every now and then Suzie,,, come on, im no arsehole poster who's known for this kinda thing, thats something that you quite well know, but you're very quick to jump down my throat here, you're touchy on Oscar.

Oh sorry! It was close to my post and i thought you were, my mistake. Hows it goin anyway, been a while since ive been in heavy debate over here.

 

I just see Tommy having to much for Oscar. Yes Oscar may be technically better in some aspects, but not overall. He wouldn't be able to use them effectively against Hearns at 147 or 154.

Unless Tommy got real dumb and got caught, I don't see him losing. Think the same for Hearns v Tito.

 

Hearns by UD but he gets caught and wobbled at least once.

 

Hearns would knock out Oscar easily, jabbing for a few round and dropping the right hand in. If he wanted to knock out Oscar with a bodyshot he could start landing his left hooks to the body and I doubt Oscar would take more than a few of those.

 

I think most defo Hearns stops him and I have said that for many years.

I say it goes about 10.

Just a better fighter plain and simple.

At LMW, Hearns by KO.

 

hearns by pts. hearns could ko him but dlh would be convervative and stay way. if dlh was scared of trinidad's power, he be petrified of hearns. plus if hearns can outbox a superior fighter in leonard, he should do well against dlh.
