It'd be a smart move for Froch. After getting KO'd by Kessler he can potentially get another big or average money fight against someone interested in challenging Kessler, like Taylor or Dirrell or maybe even Ward, and wants to use him as a measuring stick, rather than just fighting one of those guys off the bat and being eliminated from the conversation. I do believe that Taylor is his mandatory.
Last I read (and it's been a while) but Dibella and Bute's people were trying to secure a date with The Bell Centre for a fight sometime. As per Froch-Kessler, I'm glad Mikkel is looking for big fights again. I'd take Kessler in a thrashing.
taylor ducked a fight with froch before to fight the easier lacy. mick hennesey is the promoter everyone should wanna sign with. he gets the big fights.
Kessler is probably my favorite fighter, and I expect him to win this. But Froch has some pop and a granite chin, also I think he has better skills than people give him credit for. Also, Kesslers chin is yet to be really tested. He has taken shots from Mundine, Andrade and Calzaghe but they all lack true one punch power. That said, I see Kessler being too smart to get beaten to the punch. He uses his jab and movement to outbox Froch, maybe gets caught with some big shots (what will happen??) but gets a wide decision or late TKO. It depends on if Froch can adapt to being outboxed, I think if Kessler finds a comfortable pattern Froch could be in trouble. Should be a great fight.
It would be a great scenario, but I have doubts. Of course WBC would allow a unification before the mandatory because it guarantees TWO money fights, and the WBC is getting a % after each fight, therefore two big fights is better for their bank account than one. But to pay both Kessler and Froch well and offer enough step aside money for Taylor, well, I don't know whether HBO or Showtime can put enough money on the table, and I doubt Palle or Hennessy can pay all three sides alone. But we'll see. It's a terrific fight, and as Abraham took the risk to fight in the US for less money, Kessler should do it as well...
It's still far from definite that Taylor will even want to take up his mandatory, so there may be no need to pay him to step aside. Hennessy has been making noise about Dibella having contacted him and being keen to make the fight, but that's far from actually making the fight and doesn't shed any light on what circumstances he would agree the fight under. It's very possible that Hennessy could win a purse bid, being that a Froch v Taylor fight is more obviously profitable in the UK rather than the US. Would Dibella send Taylor to fight in the UK? As the champion, Froch would be entitled to 70% of the purse. Is Dibella happy to make the fight under those circumstances? I believe Hennessy will explore the Taylor fight as a first option, but look into other avenues in the fairly likely event that Taylor walks away from his mandatory position.
I don't think Taylor is in any rush to fight Froch, because with TV money coming in over here it will most likely take place in the UK. *We all know Americans have trouble finding their passports* Froch vs Kessler would be a big event - Kessler is part-British anyway and well known, so they could probably sell out the City Ground 30k spectators. Taylor could fight Bute, then fight the winner of this - then you have one guy with all three belts :good
Kessler's camp should consider for 2009 Froch in March, Inkin in June and Bute to round out a year in which he unifies the four belts. It's realistic and his career in the US would be at sky heights for a trek to LHW and a fight with Dawson.
I would expect so. The crowd for Kessler v Andrade at the Parken Stadium was around 25000 iirc which is obviously far more than Froch has done previously. I think Froch has significant drawing potential in future though. The Pascal fight was live on ITV, I haven't seen viewing figures, but we can expect that a couple of million people saw that and were throughly entertained. Froch has a much bigger profile now than prior to that fight. He also has the potential of tapping into the Nottingham Forest fanbase in the same way as Ricky Hatton has so successfully with the Manchester City fanbase, which again has the potential to increase his drawing power significantly. It's not at all unlikely that he could draw 25000 at the City Ground for a big fight in the future.
I think Froch v Kessler is much more a possibility than Froch v Taylor. JT will price himself too high and Froch's hand issue will ensure that he wont be ready for a while yet. Taylor will get the winner though.
I hope to god this fight is made!(and is shown on ITV) I'm going for a Wide UD for Kessler. Froch isn't getting KO'd by anyone but I think he'll have problems with a superior boxer-which Kessler is.
