Folks, I know it is a longshot for a Holyfield win, but I am still gonna root for the old guy anyway...... One thing I do know is, Holy CANNOT stand on the outside and jab all fight long with Nick Valuev.... If Holy tries to do that, he'll lose every round.... Holy has got to close the gap and go after Nick Valuev's body from the inside.... But, Holy is also 100+ pounds lighter than Nick Valuev; fighting on the inside is gonna be real tough on a 46 year old man..... SO! Does Holy see all 12 rds., or does he get sent packing early or midway through the fight / event??? In my view, Nick Valuev is NOT a good puncher for a man his size.... Valuev's not a heavy puncher, especially considering his size. If he leans all over Holy repeatedly and managed to keep on clubbing shots, maybe he can force a stoppage but I think it's more like Valuev will be looking for little more than jabs and clinching. I reckon it's good odds on Holy going 12.
Valuev is not a puncher, and anyway he wasn't able to hurt any decent opponent he met (Ruiz, Chagaev, Donald). The question is if Holy can be still considered "decent".
Holy still looks ripped and solid at age 46 and roughly 220 pounds, but his reflexes have been shot for the last 6 or 7 years now.... I thought Holy looked fine against Iggy last year for 3 rds...... After that, Holy stopped punching and just carried on posing..... Holy really jerked-off the second half of the 12 rounder with Iggy over in Russia...... A real snoozer of a title fight........ it would be an achievement in itself if holy went the distance, it amazes me how he can stay at this level and compete at 46!! i cant see him winning but even in this day of a mediocre heavyweight division a win here would go down as a remarkable performance!!!!!
I just gave this a thought actually, and I won't be surprised if Holyfield gets stopped in the later rounds. I mean, he got stopped by James Toney who isn't a good puncher (not taking anything away from Toney, he was great). Add 5 years of age to that and Holy will probably struggle to go 12 rounds with Valuev.
Holy has faced problems all his career with boxers who have great jabs and lately anyone with decent speed. The Russian giant has only size. The only reason Holy might not go the distance is exhaustion.
This is a ridiculous fight. It's shameful the WBA even sanctioned this as a title fight. Valuev will just stick out his jab all night.
This entire ****ing fight depresses the hell out of me the ****ed up thing is that I want Holyfield to win, yet at the same time I know that is just not ****ing happening, but then I still want him to win. But then if he does win, I know his ego is gonna be that much bigger, and he'll do some stupid **** like call out Haye or the Klistchko brothers, and then get ****ed up whenever he fights his mandatory, which will probably be Virchis or Dimitrenko or whoever. The fact that he is still fighting in general saddens me. Ive followed his career since he made his debut at Cruiserweight, and to see him like this, when he should have retired back 1999, or 2002, or any year after that, its a ****ing downer. He hasnt been prime since in 1996 with the victory over Tyson. And that was 12 years ago for gods sake.
I'm just gonna play the ignorance is bliss game and forget about everything and watch the fight. I've already been down the road of disappointment with Holyfield so one more time isn't gonna make a difference. I've been a major fan of his for years. I might be against him fighting but I'm not gonna stop rooting for him when he does. You just never know
I thought Holy looked awful against Iggy after round 3 last year.... I'm not sure if Holy ever claimed it was Iggy's southpaw stance that gave him trouble or not... Holyfield actually didn't offer up any injuries or illnesses causing the loss to Ibragimov, which is the first time since about Bowe I. Just said Ibragimov was a smart fighter and did the right things.
