Would Bernard Hopkins make a good trainer??

    He seems to be very "aware" unlike alot of boxers of the things that are happening in the fight tactically and also comes off as knowing ALOT about the game. Obviously being in the game for so long its expected but he is in my opinion exceptional in this regard.

    How do you guys things he would do as a trainer? He does have have a strong personality and some think a big ego so would this get in the way? What do you guys think?

    There is nothing Bernard can't do. Like you say, he has great insights in terms of strategy and gameplans. I could see him being a success.

    yes i wondered this. tactically astute and technically good. also he seems nice guy one on one but he got that nastyness to tell fighters how it is.

    And Hopkins is quite clear about the fact himself. He, and his manager, being interviewed in Ring call it as it is - he'd be a terrible trainer.

    The man basically hasn't broken camp in 15 years. He hasn't had chocolate in the same period. What he asks for, other men just wouldn not be able to give.

    I cannot see many top fighters as good trainers, but I notice when they are out of the limelight a little and they come down to earth a bit , then they sometimes make better trainers.

    yeah i've thought about this before myself, he'd make a great trainer....he should retire now and start at it

    No good boxers or pro players makes automatically a good trainer. Plenty of examples of that in pro sports. Having it and teaching it is not the same. Despite being that good, Hopkins may not be a good teacher so...i dont know.

    Fighter: Coach, show me how to be elusive like you.
    Hopkins: Can't. You are white. Let's focus on something else.

    He could but i doubt it because of his ego. His expectations will be too high and i don't know if he can handle the daily task of training "average" fighters who aren't as talented or ring savvy as he is. He might not have the interest. But if he can put that ego aside, he can probably do wonders.

    Well he definitely has the know how, teaching it to someone else is a different matter though.

    Very true... But with a mindset like lets say a Paquieo he could go far. If the the boxer is willing to listen to everything he says.
