Well, looks like this is the mainstream press boxing is getting these days. Not good. Author has a point, too - even if Joe is right (and it's very arguable that boxing is FAR from dying outside of the US, so that's no given), he should show some respect for the sport. Get the feeling HBO may not be interested any more? http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/box/news?slug=ki-calzaghe121508&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
Amen. You know i've always been a big fan of joe's, but he crossed the line. He fukked up bigtime and he needs to rectify it quick or it could affect his legacy, not to mention all the hate he gets anyway. I say beat dawson in wales and tell the boxing community thanks for the support.,and all will be 4given.
He kinda made his own bed and is gonna have to lie in it. If he fights anyone other than Dawson/Froch/Hopkins (won't happen)/Kessler (won't happen), he'll continue feeling snubbed. And even then, nothing he can really do at this point will really put him "over the top" - if Kessler and Hopkins didn't do it, there's not really anywhere to go next that could.
Calzaghe is a hypocrite, but he is right about North America. Boxing, may not be dying, but it's not healthy. Changes need to be made and if more people would stop buying crap PPV's and force the promotional companies to put together good cards maybe things would change. But Boxing is about Nostalgia, we want the names, we buy the names. Lately, my favourite cards have been with guys who are building names guys like James Kirkland, Gamboa, and Angulo. Boxing may not be dying, but it is not healthy.
Most anyone interested in the rematch is more concerned with the history and significance of the fight, not basic entertainment value.
The first fight is history and we all know the result. Hopkins blew the fight when he started play acting...shame.
